@Cristin70546449 @USAOWTC this is an interesting question, I know that scientist have done the mirror test to see if animals are self-aware enough to understand that what they see in the mirror is themselves, but other than that I'm not sure. Do you think that would change how we treat animals?
@Cristin70546449 @USAOWTC I also think that there is more to being human than rationality. I don't think that freedom and reason are inseparable the way the enlightenment thinks
@AllieGo33120317 It would be cool to see if people have a stronger connection with the painting and their ideas of it after Magritte would tell them they had no meaning. Almost like a "Wet Paint: Do not touch" type situation!
@lizzy1244@USAOWTC Do you think there will ever be a time that the box does not need to change, or is change always apart of gender and themes like this. Do you think change is a inevitable part of humanity? Will we ever get the box right?
#wtcgender@USAOWTC. Do you think that because gender is socially constructed that it is wrong? What other things that are socially constructed show be revised? Do you think that at its inception gender was a nefarious tool used by the patriarchy as many see it today?
@Syrena_W@USAOWTC I think a lot of people don't see the value in thinking for themselves when they often are in a system that doesn't encourage that! Why think harder when you don't have to? I hope that there are more opportunities for people to benefit from critical thinking in the future!
@brad98907325@USAOWTC I would love to see more reforms within prison that gave those people a chance to develop a stronger sense of empathy and morality so that their transition isn't as jarring. Important problems!
@Megan_M_Wade @USAOWTC I think in broad strokes that the men writing these philosophies didn't do it for the purpose of excluding women or furthering the patriarchy. I like to think that others found the opportunity to abuse these ideas and lead to the discrimination that followed. but idk for sure!
@HarrisonJ_WTC@Caitlyn_lauren_@USAOWTC I really don't think most people are evil as they are just silly sometimes. I think that majority of the negative outcomes of the enlightenment were not an attempt to further the white man's cause at its inception. those people just didn't think about those problems! very silly!
@steph__howard I laughed when I read that about Pac-Man. Not because I thought it was silly, but because it was such a unique way to interpret it. I wonder if in the future other people will look at Pac-Man and think it represents something completely different!
@Cristin70546449 @USAOWTC Do you think that most things that change are wrong? I think that it is important to have some basis for civilization, but is it okay to have other things with variance? I agree that gender roles have change dramatically and I'm glad I'm not a women anytime before the 1900's
@BlainPerry1@USAOWTC Haha thank you! I think that one of the only ways that we can figure out these problems is if we work on them together. Nobody can do it all by themselves.
@jacobvlynn It definitely requires a lot of effort and a lot of people to make a video game. I hope that people can experience a life-changing moment in these games, but this can only happen if they let themselves be open to a life-changing moment through a game.
@al08801142@USAOWTC I agree! I think that the social sciences give us at least a better understanding of empathy and care for others but not the whole story- I don't think anything could completely!
#wtcsmith@USAOWTC It seems like the more I try to find out how we empathize the more I discover how complex the process is- how communication in general is.
@DuncanPayne10@USAOWTC I agree, you have to take both the good and the bad with people- even in today's world people cannot be perfect- I think that is important for people to understand that so we know what to expect when we have realtionships with others! Both the good and the bad!
#wtckin2@USAOWTC I wonder if people in the class think Rufus is more of a product of his time, or just a bad person. What amount of agency did Rufus have in his life? What amount of agency do people think we have in our own lives?
@USAOWTC Exactly! I think that she believes that those revisions are necessary. However I wonder if there is ever a time that it does become factually true- that it becomes so fundamentally and socially correct that it becomes true. What is the relationship between fact and construction?
@brad98907325@USAOWTC I completely agree. I think its hard to put yourself in someone else's shoes. Empathy seen critical to understand the reasons why these people found justification for the world they lived in. It's hard to sacrifice yourself for what could be better or more right.
