I made this as a joke but the more I look at it -- this might make for a decent single issue as an art project, to make a statement about the development issues (equity, sustainability, ethical land-use, reduction of car dependency) that often get glossed over in mainstream news.
@JeffSpeckFAICP But totally worth that photo! In Stockholm try the Jumbo - a jet turned into a hotel and parked AT the airport. We loved the novelty of it a few years ago - and slept surprisingly well given how incredibly acoustically sealed airplane windows are! https://t.co/AsTP6XMLNa
@lalarium@tomflood1 Check out the Retrofitting Suburbia book series: https://t.co/tkH1jIZe5p. More than 100 dead malls in the US have already been redeveloped with housing, walkable streets, etc.
@tomflood1 We are on the same page! But I can't help but think that at least one of Victor Gruen's early malls should receive historic preservation status...
@rockstarr666 @aarieff@LondonBreed@sfbos Cities often buy dead malls and then issue RFPs for the kind of development they want to see. My database shows this happening more and more. Although, less so, if it's just one dead dept store.
“I don't think people are going to switch over to bikes because it's good for them or because it's politically correct. They're going to do it because it gets them from A to B faster.”

Can't wait to hear Dan's insights on using design thinking to solve big problems with small scale housing, carfree design, and attention to microclimates. Video and podcast will be posted at Redesigning Cities.
A big week for interviews. @evandawson asked in-depth questions comparing changes in suburban retrofits from our 1st book to the 2nd: https://t.co/kFZeSYGvJW

@schmangee@NewUrbanism Thanks for the shout out Angie! My database of suburban retrofits now has over 2200 case studies. @williamson_arch and I picked the best to document in our new book: Case Studies in Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Design Strategies for Urgent Challenges.
