The Somalis are digging in their heels of denial and think they are immune from accountability. They will be stomping their feet outside Saint Paul City Hall & Ramsey County Courthouse on Tuesday to rage against Sheriff Fletcher's recent FACTS he laid out on LOP about violent incidents involving groups/gangs of Somali youth.

The black community has been called out for the gangs that terrorize the north side, many have been prosecuted and sent away. The Asian community has been called out for gangs in St. Paul. They've taken accountability to address the issue.

YOU ARE NOT SPECIAL. YOU ARE NOT IMMUNE FROM SCRUTINY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. Many of you are ignoring your young people and letting them run wild. That IS ON YOU. Stop being in denial.

We never encourage people to show up at these things due to potential targeting and unsafe conditions, but if you want to either reach out to Sheriff Fletcher to vocalize support or show up with a sign that says you support his attempt to address the problem that's making us all LESS SAFE, please do so.

SOMALI AMERICAN LEADERS TO RESPOND TO SHERIFF BOB FLETCHER’S DIVISIVE AND DANGEROUS COMMENTS

SAINT PAUL, July 13, 2026 — Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 14, Somali American elected officials and community leaders will hold a press conference responding to comments made by Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher during the July 6 broadcast of his YouTube program, Live on Patrol.

The Somali American Partnership is unequivocal: violence must be confronted, those who cause harm must be held accountable, and every family deserves to live in safety. Somali families, faith leaders, educators, community organizations, and elected officials have long worked to prevent violence and support young people across the Twin Cities. On July 3, during the Somali American Vision Summit, Somali community leaders and advocates came together to address the ongoing impact of youth and gun violence, exploring its root causes and identifying meaningful solutions to better support and empower young people. 

But public safety is not advanced by sensationalizing violence, making sweeping generalizations about Somali youth, or using the authority of public office to publicly lecture and stigmatize an entire community.

The press conference will make clear that the choice is not between denying violence and stigmatizing a community. Minnesota can address violence directly, hold individuals accountable, invest in prevention, and build durable partnerships without racializing crime or placing Somali families under collective suspicion.

This rhetoric is especially dangerous in the current environment. Somali Minnesotans have already endured escalating political attacks, dehumanizing national rhetoric, federal enforcement actions, and the public targeting of Somali children. Statements by law enforcement officials cannot be separated from that broader climate or from the real consequences that inflammatory narratives create for families, students, businesses, and community members.

A new study found that CT scans may be linked to a much larger number of future cancer cases than many people expected.

The study estimated that about 93 million CT scans were performed in the United States in 2023. Based on radiation exposure from those scans, researchers projected that they could contribute to about 103,000 future cancer cases.

That number would equal roughly 5% of all new cancer diagnoses from that year, making the issue important at a public health level.

The risk from a single CT scan is still considered low for most people. However, when millions of scans are done each year, the combined impact can become significant.

Infants and children face a higher risk per scan because their bodies are still developing and they have more years ahead for radiation-related cancers to appear.

Even so, most of the projected cancer cases are expected to occur in adults. This is mainly because adults receive far more CT scans overall.

The cancers most often predicted from CT-related radiation include lung cancer, colon cancer, leukemia, and bladder cancer in adults. In children, the study pointed to thyroid, lung, and breast cancers as important concerns.

Experts say CT scans can be lifesaving and should not be avoided when they are truly needed. The concern is unnecessary scanning or using more radiation than needed for a clear result.

The main message is that doctors should order CT scans carefully, avoid scans that are not medically necessary, and use the lowest radiation dose that still gives useful images.
