My deepest respect to Col Anurag and his family. A person who has served the nation deserves the very best care, support and rehabilitation that modern medicine can offer.
Locked-in syndrome is one of the most devastating neurological conditions.
Col Anurag is conscious and aware, but is unable to speak or move most muscles. I understand why the family is asking: “Is there anything more that can be done?”
The honest answer is: There is currently no medicine or injection proven to reverse established locked-in syndrome. But that does NOT mean that nothing can be done.
Even after 13 months, I would strongly recommend assessment at a specialised centre with experience in long-term neurorehabilitation and assistive technology.
Important interventions include:
1. Detailed reassessment by a multidisciplinary team
A neurologist, rehabilitation physician, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, speech/swallow therapist, respiratory therapist, psychologist and specialist nurses should reassess him periodically. It is important to look carefully for even small voluntary movements that may have been missed or may have emerged over time.
2. Intensive, individualized neurorehabilitation
Regular physiotherapy should focus on maintaining joint mobility, preventing contractures, improving head/trunk control, sitting tolerance and any residual voluntary movement. Even a small movement of a finger, thumb, head or eye can sometimes become functionally very important.
3. Communication should be a top priority
If eye movements are preserved, an eye-gaze or eye tracking communication system can allow the person to communicate independently with family and healthcare professionals, use a computer and potentially access the internet. Simple low-tech communication methods should also be optimized. Restoring a reliable means of communication can dramatically improve autonomy and quality of life.
4. Speech and swallowing rehabilitation
Periodic reassessment of swallowing and bulbar function is important. Some patients can recover partial swallowing or other bulbar functions. Speech-language therapy should continue whenever there is potential for improvement.
5. Respiratory rehabilitation
Chest physiotherapy, respiratory exercises, secretion management and periodic reassessment of ventilatory requirements are essential. Preventing aspiration and chest infections is extremely important.
6. Mental health and quality of life
Never assume that a person with locked-in syndrome does not understand what is happening around them.
What about newer technologies?
There is exciting ongoing research into:
1. Eye-tracking and advanced communication systems
2. Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) that translate brain signals into computer commands
3. BCI-assisted communication for people with severe paralysis
4. Robotics and functional electrical stimulation
5. Virtual reality and technology-assisted rehabilitation
6. Non-invasive brain stimulation, such as transcranial direct current stimulation, currently being explored as an adjunct to rehabilitation.
These technologies are promising, but it is important to be realistic: most are not yet proven treatments capable of reliably reversing locked-in syndrome.
▶️A recent report in 2026 described eye-tracker-assisted communication as part of multidisciplinary rehabilitation in locked-in syndrome, with improvement in communication and psychosocial adaptation.
▶️Research into brain-computer interfaces is also progressing rapidly, particularly to restore communication and interaction for people with severe paralysis.
▶️Importantly, recovery from locked-in syndrome is not always confined to the first few months. While major recovery becomes less likely with time, some patients have shown meaningful improvement over many months and even longer.
▶️The extent of recovery depends greatly on the cause, location and severity of brain injury and whether the syndrome is complete or incomplete.
For a man who has served our country, we owe him continued care, respect and access to every evidence-based opportunity for rehabilitation🙏
There may not be a miracle medicine today. But there is still meaningful medicine to be practiced and meaningful hope to be offered.
Dr Sudhir Kumar @hyderabaddoctor
His case should be reffered to Safdarjung or AIIMS @adgpi ask the comdt R&R along with a call to the director AIIMS. Or else gangaram is no doubt the excellent one.

“Some stories should not be scrolled past. This is one of them.
Col Anurag Upadhyay scored in the 99th percentile in CAT. He could have chosen a corporate career. He chose the Indian Army instead.
He volunteered for the Special Forces, completed probation with 3 PARA (SF), and joined the raising team of 12 PARA (SF). Even after a heart attack in 2008, he returned to active duty.
In August 2025, he suffered a severe posterior circulation stroke. Today, he has Locked-in Syndrome. His body has been severely affected. His mind has not.
He is conscious and aware. He remembers. He thinks. Through eye movements and alphabet-based scanning, he communicates his thoughts. Further complications resulted in bilateral below-knee amputations.
This post is not asking for sympathy. It is asking for possibility.
His family knows what the medical literature says. They are not asking for promises. They believe no credible possibility should remain unexplored because the right expert was outside their network.
They seek connections to:
• Neurologists and neuro-rehabilitation specialists experienced in Locked-in Syndrome
• Rehabilitation centres focused on neurological recovery
• Researchers exploring recovery of movement, speech or other functions
• Research and emerging technologies, including brain-computer interfaces
• Eye-tracking and assistive technology that could give Anurag a more independent voice
• Veteran organisations or individuals who can open the right doors
Someone reading this may know a doctor who has treated a similar patient, a rehabilitation team that has seen a different outcome, a relevant researcher—or someone who can make the right introduction.
His prognosis should be determined by medicine and how his body responds—not by a lack of information, access or connections.
Please make a connection if you can. DM “Tales Of A Gypsy” on Instagram. If you cannot, share this until it reaches someone who can.
No sympathy. Just one question: What more is possible for Col Anurag ?
Let us help him find out”

Prayers 🙌For You- Brother Anurag ❤️
If someone files a false SC/ST case against you, instead of panicking, you should do the following:
- Approach the High Court directly and challenge the false FIR under Section 482.
- If the case is clearly false, the court may grant anticipatory bail.
- For an offence involving insult, the incident generally needs to occur in a “place within public view”; it does not necessarily have to be a public place.
- After winning the case, you may consider filing a defamation case against the person who made the false allegations.
Educate yourself.
Classic Dalrymplism at work here.
Neighborhood shrines that merchants were ALLOWED to tuck into mohallas are being used to wash the record at the great tīrthas. Conveniently hoisting the first to cunningly dismiss the second. Let’s break it down.
For starters, let’s consider temples in the capital. These are small affairs folded into havelis and galis, typically without even a shikhara. Hard to even read from the street as temples.
The article itself says that of the 96 pre-1857 temples in Shahjahanabad, only 12 have dated inscriptions. Of which, 10 are British-era and all post-1739. And what happened in 1739?
Nadir Shah’s Sack of Delhi.
That is not a some hidden golden age of imperial Hindu architecture. It’s just urban communities rebuilding after sack and living under a rule that preferred their religious artifacts invisible. Catherine Asher made the same observation...that these temples are almost invisible to the casual visitor. That invisibility was literally the policy.
Moving out of Delhi, we have the Chaturbhuj at Orchha, Govind Dev at Vrindavan, Harideva at Govardhan. All build during Mughal reigns. But by whom?
Hindu amirs (Bir Singh Deo, Man Singh, Kachwahas) who were inside the Mughal system. These are the “thousands” the headline leans on. They are not the regime’s temples. And the same article admits the pattern:
Join us and we’ll let you build.
Rebel and we hit your temples.
Shah Jahan’s own Shah Jahan Nama records the demolition of Bir Singh’s expensive temple beside the Orchha palace when Jujhar Singh rebelled.
These are what the popular memory means by “destruction.” They are not courtyard shivalayas. Diana Eck’s point still stands: no major sanctuary in Banaras as it stands predates Aurangzeb. A Gyanvapi or a Keshav Rai with a mosque on the same plinth is a different historical event from a Digambar shrine in Dharampura.
The article itself concedes: This was less “syncretism” and more pragmatic: Jain and Khattri bankers underwrote the Mughal economy, whilst Rajputs, Marathas and Jats supplied much of the army.
Correct. That is dhimmi fiscal-military logic, not religious equality. A state that needs Khatri credit and Rajput sowars would obviously not level every shrine in the qasba. The same state can still treat Banaras as, in Aurangzeb’s own words, “the great stronghold of infidelity.” Pragmatism and zealotry ran together but NOT on equal footing. “They needed Hindu bankers” does not explain why idols from Mathura were ordered buried under mosque steps “to be continually stepped upon,” or why the city was renamed Islamabad. That language is not “accountancy.”
“Aurangzeb also issued farmans protecting Banaras Brahmins in 1659.”
True, early in the reign, and consistent with “don’t touch ancient temples.” The 1669 general order and the Vishwanath demolition come later. Both documents exist. Quoting only 1659 is patently dishonest because the circumstances are far from the same!
Muhammad too says “for you is your religion, and for me is my religion (109:6),” “For me are my deeds and for you are your deeds (10:41),” and “So whoever wills, let him believe, and whoever wills, let him disbelieve (18:29).”
In Mecca. When he’s still seeking purchase. And what happens once he’s fully secure, in Medina? This:
“Kill them wherever you find them (2:191).”
“O Prophet, strive/fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh with them (9:73).”
“After the sacred months, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, seize them, besiege them, lie in wait. If they repent, pray, and pay zakat, let them go (9:5).”
“Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will not be accepted from him, and in the hereafter he will be among the losers (3:85).”
See the pattern?
Aurangzeb was doing no favors what that 1659 firman. He was not a settled emperor with free will then. He was a usurper in the middle of a civil-war. A full coronation was still months away and Shah Jahan was still alive in captivity. Dara Shikoh was still loose until summer 1659. Dara’s public image in the east was the “Hindu-friendly” brother who read Hindu epics and swore by the Gita. Aurangzeb needed the same constituencies...the pandas, the merchants, the Rajput-linked patrons...not to treat the new regime as a purge. Do you think he could afford to go on a jihadi rampage?
Temples were destroyed BY Mughals.
Temples were built UNDER Mughals.
Big difference!
Now if you think all’s fair in war, sure. Vanquishing the enemy means destroying everything sacred to the enemy. But Benaras was no enemy when Granvapi came down. Nor were Hindus always the enemy.
How many mosques did Shah Jahan tear down when he crushed Ahmadnagar and beheaded Khan Jahan Lodi? When his son took Bijapur and Golconda later, did he destroy the Charminar, Mecca Masjid, and Bijapur’s Jama Masjid? No.
So “we only hurt the enemy’s holy places” predicts mosque demolitions that the sources do not give us. What the sources give us is selective. While the enemy is both Hindu and Muslim, the destroyed structure is always a temple. A Muslim rebel loses his head, his jagir, and sometimes his sons. He does not lose the masjid as a class of object.
That the Dalrymples overlook this asymmetry is tragic because otherwise, they are such accomplished scholars.
@Aabhas24 should be able to shine a lot more light on this subject.
Are people aware of what is happening in the new Nalanda university? I have received a very unsettling mail from a student studying there.
He says "I am approaching you in a desperate attempt to find a way to somehow dismantle the misinformation and false narratives being propagated. While the central government claims this new structure to be the 'revival' of ancient Nalanda University, nothing could be further from the truth."
It's a long email, so I am just listing the important points.
1. He alleges that one professor K.T. Sarao delivered a talk to the whole university on how Brahmins/Hindus might have burnt the ancient Nalanda, after a conflict between Buddhist monks and Brahmins. The prof also conjectured that another possibility could be that Khilji mistook the ancient university for a fort and similarly dressed monks as soldiers; hence he might have mistakenly attacked the university.
2. He alleges that another professor, one Shailendra Raj Mehta, who visited the University couple of days back said in his lecture that the ancient Nalanda was purely Buddhist, as there was no system of building education institutes in Hindu tradition.
3. Prof Mehta also allegedly claimed that the traditions of Vaada and Samvaada were unique to ancient Nalanda, as earlier Hindus had no such tradition.
4. He alleges that one Prof Pranshu Samdarshi in a lecture stated that Upanishads were written after the emergence of Buddhism, and he quoted some western scholar.
5. Prof Pranshu Samdarshi also allegedly claimed that since Hindus could not defend their philosophical position against Buddhist Shunyata, they came up with Advaita Vedanta.
Lastly, the student has informed me that all the classes on Buddhist studies are being taught by monks and nuns. However, Hindu studies are being taught by profs who have no expertise in Hinduism or Vedanta.
I am deeply disappointed. If the new Nalanda is truly meant to revive the spirit of the ancient Nalanda, then it must revive its intellectual honesty as well. A university worthy of that name should be a place of Vaada where competing interpretations are examined against texts, inscriptions, archaeology and historical evidence, not presented to students as settled fact merely because they diminish the Hindu intellectual tradition.
Buddhism deserves to be taught by those who know it deeply and sympathetically; Hindu traditions deserve exactly the same scholarly seriousness.
A government-funded institution cannot call itself a civilizational revival while allowing one tradition to speak in its own voice and requiring another to be explained largely through the assumptions of its critics. If these allegations are accurate, the question that must be asked is - what exactly is being revived at Nalanda?

If you are a devotee of Mahadev, we have just one request.
Please read this thread till the end.
Because a sinister plot is underway to erase this ancient centuries-old Mahadev temple in Ahmedabad.
And we truly believe that if we don’t stand for it now, we may lose it forever.

Yasin Malik’s men didn’t stop at raping the 27-year-old Kashmiri Hindu nurse Sarla Bhatt. They then murdered her, engraved the acronym ‘JKLF’ on her body, and mutilated it out of sheer contempt for her Hindu identity. After that, they issued multiple warnings to her family against cremating her remains according to Hindu rituals. The family still went ahead with the cremation, defying the threats. When they went to collect her cremated remains (asthi) later, a mob of around 200 Islamists descended upon the crematorium and stomped over them.
They didn’t stop even at that. They then bombed her family home with a grenade.
Do you really think all 200 of those monsters who showed up at the crematorium were foreign infiltrators, Pakistani terrorists, or JKLF members? These are the questions that make many Kashmiri Muslims very uncomfortable. The moment you raise these issues, especially when they present a narrative portraying their community as victims, they label you an Islamophobe or resort to similar accusations.
I have seen all kinds of Islamists, but the tribe in Kashmir is the craftiest. Many of them pretend to be atheists in private, yet their public behaviour and political leanings tell a completely different story. Very hard to take their words at face value.
The Power of DC & FIR
The incident I’m sharing is new to the public domain and still ongoing. It highlights the power of the IAS and the helplessness of the army due to ignorance and naivety, especially the power of the DC. In 2012, a new IAS officer with little experience was appointed as DC of Leh, as is usually the case. Heavy army deployment in the area often leads to situations requiring close coordination between the army and civil authorities. The DC’s confidence swells when a three-star general the Corps Commander personally interacts with him, making him feel important. The fault lies with the army for involving a corps commander instead of a lieutenant colonel to handle the matter with a DC. To cut the story short, during a visit to his area of responsibility, the DC went to Pangong Tso lake, where the army patrols lake using boats strictly for military purposes—no civilian joy rides are allowed. Even the officers posted around. I was posted nearby but never saw the lake from the middle. The DC wanted a joy ride, and his staff approached the in-charge JCO, who outright refused. Believing the corps commander was under his influence, the DC was shown the door by a JCO. This hurt his pride; imagine an IAS with only three years of service, who considered himself the king of Ladakh, being denied a joy ride. Returning to Leh, he likely consulted his staff and superiors and then issued a notice to the local army Brigade stationed at Lukung, claiming the area was government land unlawfully occupied by the army. He demanded immediate vacating of the area or he would seize all assets, giving a week’s deadline. This unit had been there since 1962. It took seven days for the responsible brigade to be informed, but they did not take it seriously. On the 8th day, the SDM Nyoma, along with police, arrived at the site, loaded everything—including sensitive communication equipment—by order of the DC Leh. The threat of an FIR shocked the army hierarchy; they didn’t know how to respond. Eventually, a quick reaction team from an infantry unit intercepted the SDM’s convoy and retrieved the equipment, but significant damage was done to army assets. The QRT actions were followed by DC with FIRs being lodged against the brigade commander, G1(lt col), and the infantry CO whose QRT intervened. Warrants for their arrest were issued, and they needed anticipatory bail from the J&K High Court. Even the local judiciary seemed to side with the DC. The army tried to file a counter-FIR, but was ignored. The infamous JAG branch of the army was helpless, as it is they are more apt in screwing their own , just like Stalin’s police chief Beria. The J&K HC ordered reinvestigation, from the same police. No joint investigation. Idealy the DC should have been sacked, the SDM arrested, and police officers dismissed. Yet, the army officers are unaware of the FIR still pending against them, which is now in the national digital system. The DC, who issued illegal orders, remains comfortably placed in an unaccountable position. Meanwhile, the Indian army, in the name of civilian supremacy subordinate to civilian continue to suffer, recently Kisthwar case.
This is peak journalism. Indian express has started exposing all the corrupt BJP ministers.
This is what we need from the Indian media. If the media starts working properly, No politician would dare to cheat the public.
Thanks to Brave Indian Army for neutralising this Khalistani Sikh terrorist on this day, 42 years back. For those who have conveniently forgotten, he is the man who wanted to break India at Pakistan’s behest; whose ideology and whose goons are responsible for killing of thousands of Hindus and forced migration of 1.5 lakh Hindus from Punjab; who transformed religious places into terrorist hideouts; who allowed his followers to convert rooms in the Parikarma into torture rooms and to rape women; whose goons killed innocents within the precincts of religious places; who stored weapons inside religious places; who was such a big coward that he ran away from Chandukhera (Jind) Gurudwara when surrounded by Haryana Police; who didn’t come out despite repeated appeals by Army during Operation Bluestar resulting in damage to Akal Takht; who hid behind human shield of women and children instead of fighting the army; who openly mocked non Jatt Sikhs treating them as sacrificial lambs. This nation is proud of Indian Army that gave unequivocal message that nobody can dare challenge the might of Indian State and if you dare, your lifeless corpse will be found in the rubble . Homage to Officers and Jawans of Indian Army who made supreme sacrifice for the nation, on this day 🙏🏻🙏🏻
This 17 year old from Jharkhand did more journalism sitting at his home than the entire Indian Media combined did in 12+ years.
This is inspiring stuff, Sarthak may have fixed CBSE forever.
Legendary stuff, Must Watch 👏
Maj Harshit, brother of Twisha Sharma, is out there presenting the facts. It took three days for MP Police to even register an FIR. This case strongly resembles that of Col Bath, who was beaten by goons in Punjab police uniform. They were protected by the system until Mrs. Bath took charge. As I said again, this politician, bureaucrats, judiciary, and criminal nexus is beyond control. All the institutions are dead. I am sure Maj Harshit, a soldier, will not stop until justice is served for his sister. My request to the Army is to please put the weight of the institution behind this soldier, as police and judiciary are helping Ms. Girbala Singh. Nothing is expected from the CM of MP, who is incompetent and clueless.
Manoj Madhusudhanan took a ₹1.86 crore home loan from ICICI Bank.
As collateral, he handed over his original property documents. Every homebuyer does this. You have no choice.
ICICI Bank sent those documents to their storage facility in Hyderabad via courier. Somewhere on that journey — Bangalore to Hyderabad — the documents vanished.
Gone. Originals. Irreplaceable.
When Manoj found out, ICICI Bank had one answer: it was the courier company's fault. Not ours.
He went to the Banking Ombudsman. They told ICICI to publish a public notice about the loss and pay him ₹25,000 for the trouble.
Twenty-five thousand rupees. For losing the original documents to a ₹1.86 crore property.
Manoj sent a legal notice. ICICI denied any mistake.
He went to the NCDRC.
The apex consumer court looked at the facts. The bank had taken custody of the documents. The bank had chosen the courier. The bank could not hand that liability to a third party and walk away.
ICICI Bank — India's second-largest private bank, ₹9 lakh crore in assets — was held liable. Ordered to obtain reconstructed certified copies, issue an indemnity bond, and pay ₹25 lakh in compensation.
One loan. One lost file. One bank that blamed the courier.
Save this — if your bank loses your original property documents, they cannot blame their courier agent. The documents were in their custody. The liability is theirs. File at your district consumer forum. The law is on your side.

First, the Ministry of Petroleum sits on my RTI for 2 months. Then, they play a shell game, deflecting it to ARAI and OMCs. Now, ARAI hides behind "confidentiality" to suppress the research reports.
If the Govt cited IOCL, ARAI, and SIAM studies in their press release to push the E20 mandate, why is the data now a state secret? What’s "confidential" about mileage drops and engine corrosion?
This isn't about trade secrets; it’s about a total lack of accountability. The refusal to share reports only confirms the suspicion: the Ministry lied in their press release, and the "extensive research" is a ghost. Millions of vehicle owners are being used as guinea pigs for a policy backed by zero transparent science.

Her name was Ruchika Girhotra.
She was 14 years old. A tennis player from Panchkula, Haryana.
On August 12 1990, she went to meet S.P.S. Rathore at his office. He was the Inspector General of Police and head of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Association. He had promised her father he would arrange special coaching for her.
When her friend stepped out of the room, he molested her.
Her family filed a complaint three days later.
Rathore had her expelled from school. Her father was suspended from his bank job on false charges. Six cases were filed against her brother Ashu. The family's house was forcibly sold. They fled to the outskirts of Shimla and took up earth filling work to survive.
On December 28 1993, days after Ashu was paraded in handcuffs through their neighbourhood, Ruchika consumed poison.
She died the next day. She was 17.
Rathore threw a party that night.
He then refused to release her body to her father unless he signed blank papers. Those papers were later used to forge documents accepting a false autopsy report.
Despite a police inquiry recommending an FIR against him, Rathore kept getting promoted. He became the Director General of Police of Haryana in 1999.
The case went through 40 adjournments and more than 400 hearings over 19 years.
In December 2009 a court convicted him of molestation. He was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000.
The sentence was later enhanced to 18 months. The Supreme Court upheld his conviction in 2016 but reduced it to the time already served. He walked free.
The judge who tried to add abetment to suicide charges against him was forced into premature retirement.
The judge who dismissed those charges was a neighbour of Ruchika's family involved in a property dispute with them.
S.P.S. Rathore was later invited as a VIP guest to a Republic Day event in Panchkula.
Ruchika Girhotra was 14 when he molested. She was 17 when she died.
