‘Is that a threat?’
*gravelly voice with English accent*
‘Now if I were you, and I would not want to be you, I’d make sure I knew the difference between a threat and a promise’

@CCguerilla@ragandboneshop For my own work at present settings I have decided anything the damn thing is able to do really well and not totally screw up is probably something we should seek to eliminate for our workflow.
@CCguerilla@ragandboneshop I suggested we find out what industries in our disciplines are using LLM for and teach the students how to be good at that, but some quick polling of alumni from chemistry suggests it’s moving too fast at the moment for us to be useful. Our course/subject systems ain’t…nimble.
@ragandboneshop@CCguerilla We had (until 4 days ago apparently, subscription must have run out) an AI tool to help with writing assignments. Fair enough, part of the bleak future I dread. I wondered what would happen if I didn’t like what it suggested and marked a student down accordingly…
@igordownunder Hardly any homeless in Melbourne. They are there but you don’t see them screaming at people on the streets. Any city in Canada is overwhelmed with homeless downtown - I won’t let my kid go downtown alone in London Ontario that’s for sure…meth addicts engage you there.
Richard Robson always had very small research groups and limited, sporadic funding. This has never been better illustrated than by the acknowledgement slides to the Nobel lectures of Robson, Kitagawa, and Yaghi (only 1 of 4 slides shown below). #ozchem#NobelPrize
Manjur’s paper on crystallizing and characterizing a boravinylidene is now online in @J_A_C_S. Congrats to @IamMOAkram and our collaborators Kirk French and Kevin Shuford! Check it out here:
