​The "Vevo era" (roughly 2009–2018) was a unique moment in internet history where music videos felt less like random uploads and more like "Official Television" broadcasts.

If you remember every big artist's YouTube handle ending in "VEVO" (e.g., RihannaVEVO, JustinBieberVEVO), it wasn't just a branding choice, it was a high-stakes legal truce.

​1. The "Hulu for Music":
​In 2009, YouTube was in a massive legal battle with major record labels (Universal, Sony, and later Warner). The labels felt YouTube was a "wild west" where they weren't getting paid enough for their high-budget music videos.

​The Solution to this was that they formed Vevo, a joint venture. It was designed to be a "premium" layer on top of YouTube. By adding "VEVO" to the channel names and watermarking the videos, they were telling advertisers, "This isn't a cat video; this is premium, safe, professional content." This allowed them to sell ads at a much higher price than regular YouTube videos.

​2. Why the Branding Disappeared:
​As of 2026, you’ll notice the "VEVO" suffixes have mostly vanished from channel names, and the watermark is often missing. There are three main reasons for this "de-branding".

A. ​The Rise of "Official Artist Channels" (OAC): In 2018, YouTube introduced the "Music Note" icon next to artist names. They merged the artist's personal channel, their Vevo channel, and their Topic channel into one single "Official" home. This made the "VEVO" tag redundant.

B. ​Algorithm Control: Having two channels (Personal and Vevo) split an artist's subscribers and views. By merging them, artists could boost their search rankings and make it easier for fans to find everything in one place.

C. ​Mobile-First UX: On mobile screens, long channel names like "ArianaGrandeVEVO" looked cluttered. YouTube pushed for a cleaner interface where the artist's name took center stage, not the distributor's.

​3. Vevo Isn't Dead, It Just Moved:
​While it's less visible on your phone, Vevo is actually bigger than ever in 2026, but it has shifted its focus to Connected TVs (CTV).
​Vevo pivoted, for they realized that people don't care about the watermark on a 6-inch phone, but they do care on a 75-inch TV.

Today, Vevo runs dozens of "Linear" TV channels (like Vevo 80s, Vevo Country) on platforms like Samsung TV Plus, Roku, and Pluto TV. They’ve essentially recreated MTV, but without the reality shows, just 24/7 music videos.

​4. The "Chowning" Fact:
​In 2026, many artists have "chowned" (changed ownership) of their old videos. ​If a video is marked as "Made for Kids," the Vevo watermark is legally required to be removed from the player.

​Many artists now choose to upload "Lyric Videos" or "Behind the Scenes" content directly to their own channels, bypassing the Vevo network entirely to keep a larger share of the ad revenue.

Final Tech Fact: Vevo recently launched "Vevo Evolve," an AI tool that helps advertisers place their products inside music videos after they are filmed, or target fans based on the "mood" of a song rather than just the genre.

VEVO was the only reason YouTube didn't get sued out of existence in 2009.

Universal and Sony were ready to pull every music video off the platform. The labels argued YouTube was generating billions on their content while paying back almost nothing. Eric Schmidt's solution: let the labels build a parallel platform where they controlled the ad sales, the curation, and the branding. They called it Video Evolution. VEVO.

The deal was simple. Every "official" music video would route through a VEVO-branded channel. The labels owned the inventory. They sold premium ad slots that regular YouTube videos couldn't access, charging advertisers top dollar to run alongside Beyoncé instead of a random gaming clip.

The leverage was real. In 2010 when https://t.co/dqNjjTgbQ2 tried to renegotiate licensing, UMG pulled every Universal video off the site. MTV's online platform collapsed. The labels had figured out something the platforms hadn't priced in. The platforms needed the labels far more than the labels needed any one platform.

JustinBieberVEVO had 33.6 million subscribers. His personal YouTube channel had 4.2 million. TaylorSwiftVEVO had 27.3 million. Her personal channel had 2 million. The VEVO suffix marked the most valuable real estate on the platform.

Then YouTube counter-punched with Content ID. Every fan upload using a licensed song could now be monetized directly for the labels. By 2016, YouTube had paid labels over $2 billion through Content ID alone. The labels stopped needing a parallel platform to get paid. YouTube was already paying.

In 2018, YouTube started "consolidating" VEVO channels into Official Artist Channels. Artists could not opt out. The 33.6 million Bieber subscribers got auto-merged into a single channel without VEVO branding. https://t.co/sDEAF89gM6 shut down the same year, despite generating 25 billion monthly views.

The VEVO logo still sits in the corner of every official music video. That's the only thing left of the last time a record label cartel had real leverage over a tech platform.

Kedua penelitian ini jadinya mempertanyakan ulang sebenarnya berapa idealnya frekuensi ejakulasi pada laki-laki per bulannya.
