Trump says North Korea has "57 very powerful nuclear weapons." 57 is an oddly specific number. A short 🧵on why the real number is almost certainly higher.
For the national security nerds, here are some important new Trump nominations to watch:
- Allison Hooker: under secretary of state for political affairs
- Thomas Dinanno: under secretary of state for arms control
- John Hurley: under secretary of treasury for terrorism and financial crimes
- Paul Kapur: assistant secretary of state for South Asian affairs
- Chris Pratt: assistant secretary of state for political-military affairs
- Joel Rayburn: assistant secretary of state for Near Eastern affairs
I was a fan of Effective Altruism (almost taught a course on it at Harvard) together w other rational efforts (evidence-based medicine, data-driven policing, randomista econ). But it became cultish. Happy to donate to save the most lives in Africa, but not to pay techies to fret about AI turning us into paperclips. Still support the idea; hope they extricate themselves from this rut. https://t.co/bsR12EheIP via @WSJ

The method of its implementation will be agreed between the two parties during a technical meeting that will be held in Tehran.
