Learn the Maj/Min 6th string root chord shapes and transcribe your favourite songs just with them. Then the same again for the 5th string root shapes. That in itself will open up a lot for ya.

Move that shape to frets 5-4-3 instead of 3-2-1 and your playing a G chord instead of F and again to 7-6-5 for an A chord.
