That’s not how the NCAA times swim meets. Ekaterina Nikonova did not get to swim finals because Lia swam. Riley Tilteman did not get to swim for first place. Also note how Lia swam over her time in prelims by a few tenths and over her time in finals by over a second. Lia underperformed by the largest number in the finals.

Top 8 place 1-8 while 9-16 place, at best 9th. 1 non female in the top 8 means one female can, at best, finish 9th and another does not get to swim finals or earn All American. It’s not just Riley V Lia.
