We are delighted to welcome Kremlin Wickramasinghe from @WHO_Europe at the Opening Ceremony of the #EASLCongress
« In the EU, alcohol consumption has not come down in the last 10 years. All EU legal initiatives to reduce alcohol consumption are currently delayed. »
Embarrassing to be Danish🙂↕️ @WHO_Europe report #Denmark again worst among 44 countries in alcohol use among 15 yr olds
Politicians keep age limit 16 yr, refuse to limit marketing, accept low prices - wake up‼️ Alcohol related harm is a real thing!

🍻 Alcohol causes immense personal and economic harm in Europe, leading to over 3 million deaths worldwide each year. Almost half of liver disease deaths in Europe are alcohol-related, yet all are preventable.
Reducing alcohol consumption in the general population through interventions yields significant benefits. For every €1 invested in such measures, up to €16 is returned in economic benefits.
🇪🇺EASL recommends decisive actions to tackle alcohol harms, including introducing minimum unit pricing, banning alcohol marketing and sponsorship, and implementing stricter legislation on alcohol sales and consumption.

🧑💼Liver disease is a leading cause of years of working life lost.

It's time for a fundamental change to focus on early identification and prevention strategies to combat advanced liver disease.

In the EASL-Lancet Commission Report, EASL highlighted the urgent need for action in four key areas: MASLD, ArLD, Viral Hepatitis, and Liver Cancer.
📊The numbers are staggering. MASLD affects 38% of adults globally and 13% of children and adolescents, while alcohol-related liver disease claims millions of lives yearly. Viral hepatitis affects over 350 million people worldwide, and liver cancer deaths in Europe have doubled in 30 years.
EASL is calling for evidence-based policies to tackle these challenges head-on. From increasing excise taxes on sugary drinks to implementing comprehensive alcohol reduction strategies, the solutions are within reach.
🚨We are urging EU Institutions to take action to reduce the impact of liver disease across Europe.
