Today, our Advocacy Manager, @elayzabeth, had the privilege of joining the Ministry of Internal Affairs, @mia_uga, civil society organisations, development partners, and other stakeholders to commemorate the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons under the theme: "𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐦: 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠." ⛓️

The discussions highlighted the changing nature of human trafficking, with technology increasingly being used to recruit, exploit, and control victims through online scams and digital platforms. As these threats evolve, our responses must evolve too. A key takeaway from today's engagement was the urgent need for stronger coordination among government institutions, law enforcement, civil society, the private sector, and technology companies. Online scams and technology-enabled trafficking are transnational and fast-moving, making collaboration, information sharing, and survivor-centred responses more important than ever. 📲

As we strengthen governance and digital innovation, we must ensure that technology serves as a tool for protection rather than exploitation. Preventing trafficking requires sustained partnerships, responsive legal and policy frameworks, and collective action to protect those most at risk. ⚖️

FIDA-Uganda was pleased to host @IcelandinUganda during a monitoring visit to the 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫-𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 project being implemented in Buvuma and Namayingo. 📚

The visit provided an opportunity to share progress made under the project, reflect on key achievements, discuss implementation challenges and lessons learnt, and explore strategies for deepening impact in island communities.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration with justice sector institutions to address persistent prosecutorial gaps. FIDA-Uganda’s ongoing engagement with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, @ODPPUGANDA, the @PoliceUg, the @EOC_UG, and the @Mglsd_UG reflects a shared commitment to advancing gender-responsive justice and strengthening the agency of women and girls. ⚖️

🚀 Napak District strengthening community resilience through Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR).

As part of implementing Napak District’s Local Action Plan (LAP) on #WomenPeaceSecurity, we conducted a radio talk show on natural resource management and climate-related risks, focusing on Executive Order No. 3 of 2023 on environmental protection.

The engagement is part of the #LAP’s priority actions on climate action and disaster risk reduction, aimed at strengthening community awareness, preparedness and sustainable management of natural resources.

This is particularly important for Napak, where communities continue to experience climate-related challenges, including prolonged dry spells, food insecurity, environmental degradation and increasing pressure on natural resources. These challenges affect livelihoods, increase vulnerability and have implications for peace and security.

Through platforms such as radio, communities are able to access critical information, share concerns and engage in solutions that promote sustainable resource management and strengthen resilience.

💡Key Reflections and Lessons on Advocacy in Sensitive Contexts!

🟠 Advocacy is stronger when we act collectively — By building alliances and leveraging collective power, we can amplify our voices, strengthen our influence and push for greater change.

🟠 Awareness is an important step towards community action — Advocacy must help communities identify and understand the issues that affect them, recognize their consequences and see the need for action. When communities are informed and empowered, they are better positioned to join and lead advocacy efforts.

🟠 Build an advocacy movement that amplifies multiple voices — Advocacy should be expansive enough to bring different voices into the conversation. The goal is not only to have others speak for us, but to create spaces where people can speak with us and, most importantly, speak for themselves. Diverse voices strengthen advocacy and make the call for change harder to ignore.

🟠 Document the advocacy journey, not just the outcome — We need to clearly capture the issues, actions taken, progress made, challenges encountered and changes achieved. Good documentation enables others to track progress, learn from the process, measure impact and adapt advocacy strategies where necessary.

Last week, YCED National Coordinator @ivanotim96 participated in the kickoff meeting for the development of Uganda's Youth Legislative Agenda (2026–2031) at Hotel Africana. The Agenda translates the National Youth Manifesto 2026–2031 into concrete policy priorities, legislation, budget commitments, and oversight actions to guide youth representation in the 12th Parliament.

The meeting, convened by @upfya_org @NYCofUganda, @NationalSIGUg , @SensitiseUg , and @NimdUganda , brought together key stakeholders, including the Head of the NRM Manifesto Implementation Unit, Mr. @WBashaasha, the Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Dr. @MercyLakiskis, and Youth MPs @SamBegira, @Wanyamajudas, @MwineTumwebaze, and @KanyesigyeMerc1.

💭What does it take to move WPS and YPS commitments from policy to meaningful action at the local level?

At the #Pre-RIMC Consultative Forum and Great Lakes Women's Round Table for Peace in Nairobi, our country coordinator from the DRC, @BRubango joined a panel on localizing the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agendas across the Great Lakes Region.

Drawing on experiences from Uganda, DRC, Burundi and South Sudan, he highlighted the need to bridge global, regional, national and local commitments and ensure they translate into meaningful action, calling for a holistic, people-centred approach to peacebuilding that places women, young people and conflict-affected communities at the centre of peace negotiations and peace agreements.

Key challenges include persistent conflict, limited financing for #NAPs and #LAPs, incomplete implementation of peace agreements, and the exclusion of marginalized groups.

Our recommendation:
*⃣Peace processes must be inclusive, adequately resourced and responsive to the realities of communities most affected by conflict.

📍This Week in Nairobi,

We're pleased to join the Pre- Regional Inter-Ministerial Committee (Pre-RIMC) Consultative Forum and the Great Lakes Women's Round Table for Peace, in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme: "Strengthening the Contribution of Women, Youth and Civil Society to Regional Peace Processes, Ceasefire Monitoring and RIMC Deliberations."

Convened by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region( @_ICGLR_ ), the three-day forum brings together representatives of the Regional Women’s Forum, Regional Multifunctional Youth Forum, Civil Society Forum, Parliamentarian Forum and Private Sector Forum, alongside key stakeholders and partners.

The consultations provide an important space for regional actors to examine emerging peace and security developments across the Great Lakes Region and develop concrete recommendations to inform the upcoming High-Level Meeting and Regional Inter-Ministerial Committee (RIMC) deliberations.

As @TheWIPCentre , we're contributing to these discussions by sharing perspectives and evidence on the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agendas across Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan and Uganda.

Our contribution will draw attention to the progress, persistent gaps and opportunities for strengthening the meaningful participation and leadership of women and young people in peace processes, conflict prevention and regional decision-making.
