I was just reading a paper, and I found an interesting sentence referenced
Then I pulled the reference and read it in full.
To my total shock, it was nothing like how it was cited!
It had been sensationalized and inaccurately referenced.
Has anyone else encountered this?
If only the general public could walk through a Covid unit/ICU. Then maybe they’d get the hint that this shit is NOT a fucking conspiracy theory.
My patients are dying.
Patients EVERYWHERE are dying.
Today I let my intern go home early (it was his birthday!) and took his pager. Could not believe how rude/flippant people were when thinking I was the PGY1! Lots of sass and back-talk from 2nd and 3rd year residents. Be kind to your interns! #meded#uroresidency#urosome#medsome
I was taking care of a patient the other day who was very seriously injured. And I stepped out to talk to his family briefly and give them an update. For context, he was Black. I told them what was going on quickly and asked if they had any questions. And this is what they said.
@running_nurse_ Whenever I dont know something I admit ignorance far and wide so I can learn from whomever is willing to teach.
I explain who I am and why I'm there and as a general rule people are kind.
Best of luck!
A patient on my service died. I have spent hours now reviewing the case. Many lessons learned. But need to be honest. I feel like a failure. We don’t really talk about these feelings. We tend to dismiss them. Medicine is not just humbling. Sometimes it’s plain defeating.
@accio_DO_ This where you will score the casual mention of signs/symptoms that are developing and hopefully intervene early. Your mum taught you well and if we all considered each other equally valuable team members we'd provide a much higher standard of care. Kudos to you
Why don't you come into my ICU and say that to the family of a patient dying from COVID-19?
This is a public health emergency, not an opportunity for cheap political point scoring.
This virus doesn't care who you vote for or what newspaper you read.
A patient with a rare condition was brought in to our ED last night - the first one our senior nurse has seen in her forty year career.
It was a gunshot wound.
THIS. I had never heard of agonal breathing before I heard @DGlaucomflecken doing it. I thought he was snoring, then I thought he was having a respiratory issue. I would never have known to do chest compressions without the 911 dispatcher telling me to. We need more awareness!
Today, I met the people who saved my life.
I’ve been tweeting about my cardiac arrest since I woke up in the ICU and re-downloaded twitter (@LGlaucomflecken deleted it for my own safety and concluded that if I could figure out how to get it back, I was safe to tweet again)
The phrase that has been echoing through my mind is “the only way out is through,” from @edyong209’s great piece, Our Pandemic Summer https://t.co/ZjtCMuhVwD. Written in April, it perfectly predicted our swing from panic to neglect.
Healthcare workers who are parenting babies/toddlers/school-aged children/adolescents:
Due to COVID pandemic & availability of childcare/in-school options for 2020-21, are you:
As a resident from the program that published the #medbikini article, I was surprised to read methodology so antithetical to equitable values shared by myself and others at our hospital. Here are some (personal) thoughts. /1
