Today, we mark 25 years since the heinous terrorist attacks of 9/11.

We remember the innocent victims, the heroic first responders, and all those whose lives were forever changed as a result of the terrorist acts.

As we honour their memory and bravery, we reaffirm our solidarity with 🇺🇸 and our unwavering determination to stand together against terrorism in all its forms.

🇨🇾🇺🇸 Οι σχέσεις Κύπρου και Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών έχουν τα τελευταία χρόνια αποκτήσει νέο βάθος, νέα δυναμική και νέες προοπτικές. Και αυτή η πορεία συνεχίζεται.

Αυτό συζητήσαμε σήμερα, σε γεύμα εργασίας με διακομματική αντιπροσωπεία επιστημονικών συνεργατών μελών της Βουλής των Αντιπροσώπων και της Γερουσίας των ΗΠΑ.

Ο Στρατηγικός Διάλογος, η ενίσχυση της αμυντικής συνεργασίας, οι επενδύσεις και οι οικονομικοί δεσμοί δεν είναι απλώς σταθμοί μιας σχέσης που αναπτύσσεται. Είναι η βάση για όσα περισσότερα μπορούμε να πετύχουμε μαζί.

Και έχουμε σημαντικά βήματα μπροστά μας, με το Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act και το ITAR να μπορούν να δώσουν ακόμη μεγαλύτερο βάθος και προοπτική στη στρατηγική μας συνεργασία.

Μιλήσαμε, φυσικά, και για το Κυπριακό. Για μια επανενωμένη Κύπρο που δεν θα απελευθερώνει μόνο τις δυνατότητες της ίδιας της χώρας μας, αλλά θα μπορεί να αποτελεί ακόμη ισχυρότερο πυλώνα ασφάλειας, σταθερότητας και συνεργασίας σε μια περιοχή όπου αυτά είναι περισσότερο αναγκαία από ποτέ. 🕊️

Η ισχυρή διακομματική στήριξη στο Κογκρέσο είναι πολύτιμη. Γιατί η πρόοδος που έχει επιτευχθεί μάς δείχνει πόσο μακριά έχουμε φτάσει. Και οι δυνατότητες που έχουμε μπροστά μας, πόσο μακρύτερα μπορούμε ακόμη να φτάσουμε. 🇨🇾🇺🇸

🇨🇾🇺🇸 Cyprus-U.S. relations have, in recent years, gained new depth, new momentum and new prospects. And that progress continues.

This was at the heart of today’s working lunch with a bipartisan delegation of professional staff members from the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.

The Strategic Dialogue, our strengthened defense cooperation, growing investment and expanding economic ties are more than milestones in a relationship that is advancing. They are the foundation for what more we can achieve together.

We also have important steps ahead, with the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act and ITAR capable of giving even greater depth and long-term perspective to our strategic partnership.

We also spoke, of course, about the Cyprus Issue. About a reunified Cyprus that would not only unlock the full potential of our country, but could also serve as an even stronger pillar of security, stability and cooperation in a region where all three are needed more than ever. 🕊️

The strong bipartisan support we enjoy in Congress is invaluable. The progress already achieved shows how far we have come. The opportunities ahead show how much further we can still go. 🇨🇾🇺🇸

Οι σχέσεις Κύπρου–Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών βρίσκονται σήμερα στο υψηλότερο επίπεδο που υπήρξαν ποτέ. Η έναρξη του Στρατηγικού Διαλόγου Κύπρου–ΗΠΑ και η ιστορική επίσκεψη του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας στον Λευκό Οίκο, η πρώτη έπειτα από 28 χρόνια, αποτέλεσαν σημαντικούς σταθμούς στην αναβάθμιση των διμερών σχέσεων και άνοιξαν ένα νέο κεφάλαιο στη συνεργασία των δύο χωρών. Έκτοτε, η συνεργασία διευρύνεται διαρκώς, από την άμυνα και την ασφάλεια μέχρι την ενέργεια, την οικονομία, την εκπαίδευση και την τεχνολογία, δημιουργώντας νέες δυνατότητες για την Κύπρο και ενισχύοντας τη θέση της χώρας. Σε αυτή την πορεία, ιδιαίτερη βαρύτητα αποκτά η οικονομική διάσταση της σχέσης και οι προοπτικές που δημιουργούνται μέσα από την προσέλκυση επενδύσεων.

Οι στοχευμένες επαφές του Προέδρου της Δημοκρατίας στη Νέα Υόρκη, το Τέξας και τη Silicon Valley για την προσέλκυση επενδύσεων έχουν ήδη αποφέρει συγκεκριμένα αποτελέσματα, ανοίγοντας τον δρόμο για νέες επενδύσεις και συνεργασίες στην Κύπρο. Το ενδιαφέρον κορυφαίων αμερικανικών εταιρειών, μεταξύ των οποίων η Amazon, η NVIDIA και η Plug and Play, και η παρουσία ορισμένων από αυτές, μόλις έναν χρόνο μετά, ήδη στην Κύπρο, αποτελούν έμπρακτη ψήφο εμπιστοσύνης στις προοπτικές της κυπριακής οικονομίας και δημιουργούν νέες δυνατότητες στους τομείς της τεχνολογίας, της καινοτομίας και των επενδύσεων υψηλής προστιθέμενης αξίας. Και είναι αυτή ακριβώς η πορεία που επιδιώκεται να συνεχιστεί και να ενισχυθεί, δημιουργώντας ακόμη περισσότερες προοπτικές για την Κύπρο και τους πολίτες της.

Ολοκληρώνεται σήμερα, μετά από πέντε συναρπαστικά χρόνια, η θητεία μου στη Γερμανία. Ήταν για μένα ιδιαίτερη τιμή και προνόμιο να εκπροσωπήσω τη χώρα μου την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία στην Ομοσπονδιακή Δημοκρατία της Γερμανίας και να συμβάλω στην περαιτέρω ενίσχυση της κυπρογερμανικής φιλίας, στο πλαίσιο της κοινής μας ευρωπαϊκής πορείας. Deeply honored to have received on Saturday the "Excellence in Public Service" Award by the @ualbanyalumni at a Gala Event in Albany, NY, in the presence of college friends, diaspora leaders and my family. The @ualbany was my home for six formative years - it was a joy to return.
