What happened in Geneva last week: The WHO attempted to take over the global management of public health emergencies whenever the WHO Director-General decided to declare one.

The WHO had even proposed managing a network of laboratories that would study “potential pandemic pathogens,” or as some might call them “potential biowarfare agents.” Nations could have received royalties for providing deadly viruses to the WHO.

Fortunately for the world, that plan was thwarted in Geneva last week. The 194 nations belonging to the WHO said “NO” to a lending library of pandemic pathogens.

However, a proposed pandemic treaty will continue in discussions for another year, so we will need to remain vigilant.
