We are students from @HS_Reutlingen and @ElectronicsDrv designing an ASIC on the base of our predecessors @EDRT_iSCREAM.

What a journey it was! Thanks a lot to everyone interested in our project.
While we say goodbye, another team will work on cool improvements of the ASIC such as automatic start position detection and a digital interface.

It's a match! On the left you can see the final simulations just before chip tape-out and on the right the latest ASIC measurements from the lab on real hardware.

For the simulaton we utilized VHDL-AMS to descibe a variable inductance modeling the changing inductance of a switched reluctance motor while spinning.

The iDream comes true! The ASIC is able to control a switched reluctance motor with a DC link voltage of 300V and 5400 rpm. #ASIC#electronics#Engineering
Here you can see a little deeper inside the mechanics of our SRM! One can easily identify the distict coils and the rotor. No permanent magnets necessary! #electronics#Engineering
We made it. Within 4 months we designed a CMOS ASIC based on the @XFAB_FOUNDRY's analog IP library for our #Master project. The layout data has already been sent in and we look forward to holding the chip in our hands and testing it. Stay tuned!

Diving into our ASIC's details manufactured by @XFAB_FOUNDRY in a 350 nm process. In the pictures below you can identify the analog and digital parts of our circuit as well as our crystal clear logo!

So if you are planning to use a 8/6 switched reluctance motor in your application you just need some current sensors, a power stage and our ASIC! No need to worry about position detection or current control anymore.
Putting the "I" into "IC": Our SR-Motor-Control-ASIC integrates the analog current control loop, the digital state machine for phase activation and the digital logic to detect the rotor position via the PWM frequency. #electronics#microelectronics#engineering
