#EDL763 Interesting take on diversity questions posed during faculty interviews...I'm picking up the quality of learning tone as a byproduct for those faculty that understand working with diverse groups in the way explained within the article. https://t.co/n9q9qQgNuo
Honestly, this entire class has been an ah-ha moment being that I do not have a faculty background, but misconceptions about the allocation of work hours have been most interesting. Because, during my undergrad studies, I held those misconceptions noted in the readings. #EDL763
@EmilyEv30163561 I would agree and also add that I gathered a sense of faculty being so student-centered it creates that imbalanced lifestyle...good and bad, depends on the goals and "path" of the faculty member.
@SlpKatie1962 I appreciate references to literature in your paper. Helped to reinforced core elements of the academic profession and aspects I may have missed. Also, it was refreshing to read your interviewee’s thoughts about the retention of students…solid ideas. #EDL763
@Felicia__Jeff I’m a little confused about the discrimination section, it reads more like professional differences about purpose. Your interviewee’s goal to address the outdated vision/core values is encouraging. I hope others are receptive to her leadership and goals. #EDL763
@traypcmich Similar to your interview, my person is adjunct faculty and has no desire to pursue tenure faculty status. Also, both view doctorate degree holding as a faculty member is important and valuable. Awesome to see similar viewpoints. #EDL763
Notions of faculty...easy life: The breaks (summer, spring, and winter), flexible scheduling (office hours), and visible (59% spent in isolation). From my discussions, students have stated, faculty are "living life, " or as one student said "living on easy street". #EDL763
@HumistonJon What is CMU's view on student evaluations? Understandably that this may vary by department, maybe even appointment type. Also, I feel an ethical dilemma at play regarding "gamesmanship" or manipulating of students when its time for evaluations. Thoughts? #EDL763
@SlpKatie1962 @HumistonJon This approach to the topic is quite interesting, especially when thinking of just faculty members. I wonder what is driving these associations...other faculty, students, a combination of the two, the greater social realm of education.🤔 #edl763
@HumistonJon This article screams the definition of insanity...committee, committee, but wait, let's form a "special" committee. Because this one will be different, yet does little to address systemic racism. https://t.co/tiS0FuNjk0
@HoekwaterTaylor University personnel has to be able to perform their job to the fullest regardless of the situation or person. Position within the University should not matter, yet in many cases, we see that it does, which leads to poor decision making. #edl763
@HumistonJon "As much as we may try to detach in the summer, we often can’t. For it is precisely during the blissful moments of peace and vacation that all of those nagging little things left undone come crashing back to mind." The article was spot on...so many truths. #edl763
😮 faculty appointment types...quite the difference in types and eye-opening. I wonder which driving force is having the most influence on the dramatic shift in appointment type held. #edl763
Week 1's readings were informative. All of my experience in higher education has been on the student affairs side of things. With the first assignment, I'm interested in the determinants that place a professor in the "quality" category, academic freedom, and more. #edl763
Please just call me Hooper. I've worked in higher education for just over 9years. My career started at SVSU, and I'm currently employed by CMU. I enjoy watching movies, woodworking, fitness, and spending time with my wife and kids...also, sleeping when I can. #EDL763
