#Afghanistan
We urge all Afghan leaders to come together. This letter shows the anger and boredom of foreigners with the state of corruption and terrorism in Afghanistan.
If the leaders of Afghanistan fail to come up with a solution, it could spill a lot of blood.
@Massoumehtorfeh@RolandKobia Costly strategic failure... paid by Afghan+partner lives + tax payers of donor nations, mainly caused by imposed agendas+ incompetence/mismanagement+ chronic corruption at all levels.
Reading this does make one wonder if the US felt it necessary to issue such a blunt and instructive statement because either 1) President Ghani misread the seriousness of previous US intentions of departure, or 2) has been determined to fight it out with the Taliban regardless
Thinking #Afghanistan and #EU?
As humiliated as Afghanistan is. That is how humiliated EU is post Brexit in the eyes of English speaking world.
@vonderleyen has old men with eastern Europe racist attitudes as diplomats that will turn AFG into Vietnam for EU. Get diversity.
Good thread as a follow-up to @SecBlinken leaked letter (per my latest tweet). Note of caution though that this initiative is work-in-progress, positions not final (despite spin) & while time is a critical factor, there're plans Bs that could end up being worse alternatives.
Thinking #Afghanistan and #Peace?
From Doha to Turkey.
A gov't that has zero dignity is being ordered now. Corruption killed Afghanistan. Terrorism will bury it.
Biden administration will ask Turkey to host a senior level meeting between Taliban and Afghan officials in coming weeks to finalise a peace agreement
Blinken asked Ghani to personally join or send an equivalent

A lot in this letter, with a bottom-line: Biden largely sees the same road/options out of Afghanistan that Trump did — Biden is just communicating more clearly.
To make it a petty fight about “this is Khalilzad, not US gov” has proven a miscalculation that wasted precious time.
Thinking #Afghanistan and #Corruption?
@EUinAfghanistan is being humiliated. Its diplomats stripped off dignity. Time for EU to coordinate better. @EUAmbAFG
Eastern Europeans seem to stand strong by the corrupt and killers.
@saadmohseni@JosepBorrellF
To be helpful to the Afghan peace process, the EU might need a new special envoy for Afg in Brussels.
Amb Kobia has completed his 3 years term I guess.
Thinking #Afghanistan and #Corruption?
In Afghanistan, #EU is at war with #America. Their diplomats are going in opposite directions. One lobbying a corrupt gov't and the other threatening Taliban. @SecBlinken
Foreigners are guilty of blood shed in Afghanistan.
#Afghanistan has a Constitution, had elections, held Loya Jirgas, has Joint Declaration with the US, is engaged in Doha process. The IRA has the support of vast majority of international community + the world in UNSC and Geneva has committed to protect achievements & Republic.
Thinking #Afghanistan and #Corruption?
The world has become sick of Ghani administration's corruption more than terrorism.
@KarzaiH must step in or Afghanistan going to 1990s. Butchery on the streets.
Thinking #Afghanistan and #Corruption?
This is a letter to a slave. It is a threat not a dignified partnership. @ashrafghani hired corrupt loyalists and they turned the world against him.
Do as America says or become another Saddam or Najib. That is what this letter says.
Exclusive: US Secretary Antony Blinken in a letter to President Ghani--similar to one shared with Chairman Abdullah--presents four suggestions for Afghan peace process (see thread):
Thinking #Afghanistan and #Corruption?
This is the status of Afghanistan under corruption. It has no value and dignity. It is an aid addicted and humiliated nation decided for by others.
(1) UN should convene a meeting of foreign ministers and envoys from Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, India and the US to discuss a unified approach to supporting peace in Afghanistan.
Breaking - A tribal elder in Nangarhar, Malik Hashim, was killed in an explosion that targeted his vehicle in Jalalabad's district 7 this morning, local officials said.
6. Emotions vs "professional, fact-based"=lessons learned and/or usual influencing?
7. Military entry easy, exit excruciating
8. Giving diplomacy a chance to seek an imperfect path to a settlement
9. Role/aims of AFG+international stakeholders important
10. Leaked for a reason.
