THE COBRA EFFECT ๐
During the British Raj, officials grew concerned about the rising number of venomous cobras in Delhi. To tackle the issue, they introduced a bounty for every dead snake.
At first, the policy seemed successful, many cobras were killed.

Like to narrate an interesting story regarding a patient whom I have operated visited me after 15 years!๐ซ
During the last phase of ethnic war in 2009 Sri lankan Army commenced a humanatarian mission to rescue the tamil civilians who got trapped in the war no fire zone in Mulivaikkal, Mullativu district. LTTE with their leader Prabhakaran kept them as hostage and shot at any one trying to escape through Nanthikadal lagoon to SL Army controlled area!
Young LTTE tamil couple had decided to escape with their newly born baby. Their own LTTE militants mercilessly shot at them injuring both mother and her 7 day old new born baby and separating them.
Mother's was shot at her head and her nose got completely disintegrated with gun shot injuries.
Baby was airlifted and transferred directly to my ward at LRH. Baby had severe head and abdominal injuries. One of the bullets had entered from front and gone through the bladder and exited from behind near the spine and we didn't expect him to survive as baby had bled a lot!
I did several operations on him over the period of next three months and he made a remakable recovery.
My staff took care of him very well and infact one of my junior lady doctors volunteered to breast feed the baby as she had a new born baby her self at that time!
I had to allocate staff to keep and eye on him specially during the patient visiting hours as he was a very cute adorable baby all alone in a single cot without a guardian. Police couldnt trace the parents and was presumed dead.
Six months later we got to know a probable mother recovering following a coma and complex plastic surgery in nearby National hospital who also had been transferred from war zone during the last stages of the war.
We had to get legal advice from the Courts to identify the real biological mother and do "maternity DNA testing"as two other tamil mothers with missing babies also came forward and claimed the baby as their own!
Later on Ministry Of Defence SL did a documentary video " The Last Phase" based on this incidence to counter attack the "alleged war crimes commited by the SL Army"by the western media.
It was a pleasant surprise when mother and son visited me today. He is studying well in a leading boys school in Jaffna.๐

Not everyone struggling financially is lazy.
As a doctor, I see people every day who *want* to work but canโt - cz of illness, caregiving duties, trauma,or systemic barriers.
Hard work deserves respect, but so does empathy.
Society isnโt strong when we only protect the strongest.
Sri Lanka is South Asiaโs most AI-exposed economy, leading the region in artificial intelligence (AI) job growth, a World Bank report states.
The country has the highest share of white-collar job postings requiring AI skills at 7.3 per cent.ย
However, the World Bank warned that Sri Lanka also ranks lowest in AIโhuman complementarity, suggesting a high risk of job displacement if workers are not quickly reskilled.
The report also noted Sri Lanka ranks second in South Asia for ChatGPT usage per capita, behind the Maldives.ย
To mitigate risks, the World Bank recommends strengthening digital foundations and investing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
The modern tourist is a curious creature.
They travel thousands of miles to find themselves, only to discover everyone else doing the same finding. They photograph sunsets they did not watch, meals they did not taste, and monuments they do not understand, all for the sake of the algorithm.
If the ancient pilgrim travelled to cleanse their soul, the modern tourist travels to enrich their feed.
