It's a very exciting day! Today marks the official launch of the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme 🦔
@PTES, @hedgehogsociety, @NottmTrentUni & the other project partners are aiming to count the UK's hedgehogs & work out the reasons behind population decline 📉
A new @NottmTrentUni study hopes to support hedgehog conservation by harnessing the combined potential of personal trail cameras in people’s gardens.

What an excellent spring day to kick off the #NHMP field season ☀️ (though I'd forgotten how heavy the cameras are 🙈)
Field season number 3 of the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme is underway 🦔🥳
Great evening @ #ZSLTalks, catching-up with our partners of the #NHMP! Hearing about the challenges & progress we've encountered leveraging a network of citizen scientists, and AI for a national #hedgehog camera trap survey🦔
Well done to all! @ZSLScience@hedgehogsociety@PTES
Join us tomorrow online or in person at the #ZSLTalks event, where we will be discussing how we combine camera traps, AI and citizen science to run a national monitoring programme for hedgehog conservation. I'll be kicking things off at 6pm!
Will you be joining us in person or online next week? Take a look at the event page to find out which brilliant speakers will be appearing on our panel 🦔👉https://t.co/mmIIL9fv53
Attend our next #ZSLTalks event live in person or online! Join us on 1 April to learn more about developing a national camera trap survey for hedgehog conservation, leveraging a network of citizen scientists and AI in the process 🦔 Book your free ticket! https://t.co/mmIIL9fv53

Mice to meet you! 🐭
Mice play a key role in the natural environment; from distributing plant seeds to being prey for animals like owls and foxes. Learn all about the 4 species you can see in the UK 👉 https://t.co/V3SLTXx0Gs
During cold weather snaps, make sure garden #wildlife like #hedgehogs have fresh, unfrozen water available!
🦔💧❄️
Add shallow dishes of water to gardens all year round, with a few pebbles so insects & small birds can safely perch for a drink too!

Nature is not a blocker to growth.
The UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has claimed that 'The balance has gone too far in the direction of always protecting every bat and every newt.' But how can this statement be true when the UK is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world?
There was a hedgehog piece on the STV news last week, including an update on the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme in Scotland, ft a quick interview with me 📺🦔🙋🏼♀️
