Did you know that geography is one of the primary social determinants of health, with rural residents often being in worse health than urban residents?
@NCrural Wow! Those are very interesting statistics. What do you think is the best way to reduce the inequities that exist in rural health care when these hospitals close? Perhaps rural health hubs? Or e-visits through the use of technology? Let me know what you think!
@NCrural @DeloitteInsight @unchpm The idea of giving rural residents better access to health care through the use of technology is extremely interesting. Do you think that this is a step that needs to be taken in the near future to ensure that all residents are able to access the health care they deserve?
@CADTH_ACMTS I found all of that evidence really interesting, and it truly goes to show that their are inequities when it comes to health care in rural communities. Do you think that rural health hubs are an adequate way to reduce these inequities?
@unitepangaea I agree that geography is one of the major social determinants of health in our country! Do you think that implementing rural health hubs is an adequate way we can solve this problem?
@BillAuxier I am currently doing a research project on health care in rural communities, and I believe that it is very important to implement rural health hubs in these areas in order to ensure that residents are getting the adequate health care they deserve. What do you think about this?
@BHWRC@csgazette This is a very interesting initiative! Do you think that physicians should also be educated to work in rural areas in order to reduce the inequities that exist between rural and urban health care??
You can take small actions to help end the stigma surrounding mental health. Do not discriminate. Show support and love to everyone you meet. We are ALL human beings and our differences make us unique. Let's talk about it #EM203
Can you imagine having to drive 2+ hours just to see a specialist or have a medical test ? This is the reality for people living in rural towns in Canada. Something needs to be done in order to improve their access to health care, and rural health hubs might just be the answer!
Interoperability and greater amount of hospitals/ clinics can be solutions to our public health problems. Increasing communication amongst all health care professionals for a patient and more access to health care providers in smaller towns.
In order to reduce the inequities in rural health care, rural health hubs that allow residents to access physicians and medical services must be created. The Ontario government has a framework for these rural health hubs, and pictured is an example of what one might look like.

@EM203katie Hey Katie! I hope you are enjoying the course as much as I am so far. The digital age is constantly growing and I think it is so cool to be able to learn in a time where we have technology constantly at our fingertips.
@EM203MartaW Hey Marta! I found constructivism very interesting also. It is important for students to have experiences where they can shape their own knowledge.
