What an amazing response during our final session on the ‘Future of Teaching Medieval History’! Thank you so much to our speakers and attendees on Day 2 of #EMJC I think this poll demonstrates just how inspiring the day has been 🎉🎉🎉
Wonderful resources for teaching the Jews of med England in schools produced by @DrBeccaSearby with @UkNatArchives. Would be amazing if teacher followers could RT - cc. @history_sam @rmkirkup @MrsSolomons15@Tessa_teaching et. al. (sorry, terrible at remembering Twitter handles).
Percentages that make months of hard work, planning, advertising and co-ordinating worth it! I think that it's fair to say that our amazing speakers got their message across loud and clear today! Beginning and end of #EMJC
As I mentioned throughput the two days, it’d be great if people attended the event, and who are in a position to do so, could make a donation to the @JHSEngland which I’m sure would be very much appreciated and would support their important work! https://t.co/7GGChkecNk 2/2
Me and @DrBeccaSearby are both incredibly tired but also incredibly happy with the way #EMJC went. So many conversations started and so many unexplored avenues to go down. Thanks to all speakers and especially @MiriERubin for her enthusiasm and @JHSEngland for hosting! 1/2
Thank you to all the presenters for an interesting and inspiring two days. I have written pages of notes. The conference packs are also a delight in their own right. @EMJC_2021@UCL_Holocaust#BeaconSchool2021
Our final workshops see two dear friends - @ERobinsonWild and @toniagriffiths - explore Jews, memory, archaeology and more! Such a shame that we will be unable to resort to our usual tactic of retiring to the pub afterwards! #EMJC
I don’t know about anybody else, but I could listen to @MiriERubin relating medieval hagiography for days on end!!! Wonderful introduction to William of Norwich (1144) and Thomas of Monmouth’s narrative which she translated and is available from all good bookshops! #EMJC
In the first poll of the day, we asked our teachers if they currently teach Medieval Jewish history at Key Stage Three - these were the responses. Let’s see if by the end of the day, we can encourage more integration of Medieval Jewish history into the classroom!
.@DrBeccaSearby is happy to share her resources and ideas for incorporating medieval Jewish history (esp. the 1190 massacre) into current schemes of learning for KS3. Please feel free to email her.
Kicking off the 1190/1290 workshop is my amazing co-organiser, @DrBeccaSearby, with an overview of 1189/90 which culminated in the massacre at York on 16-17 March 1190. #EMJC
This was really important to us when organising #EMJC - what's the point of all of the really amazing work which was showcased yesterday if only those in the field know about it?! Equally, teaching this aspect of English history can be really scary, so we hope to help there!
Yesterday was hugely successful - people (quite understandably) came and went but we never dropped below 100 participants for the main paper. Hoping today will be similarly successful!
Day 2 - 'England's #Medieval#Jewish Communities' conf @EMJC_2021 I will be co-presenting a session later w/@toniagriffiths on how #Archaeology & #LocalHistory can complement/benefit secondary level teaching about communities (pl'sd to see there is scope for it in the curriculum)
