I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from being in this class this semester. Overall, I feel that the information about the school to prison pipeline will stick with me the most. Also, that race is a social construct and not biologically supported. #SOCL214

Many suburbs remain to be predominantly white due to racists federal policies previously implemented. Even though many of those policies are no longer legal, the impact is still very relevant. An example could be the accumulation of generational wealth. #SOCL214

@brat_tani I definitely have a more clear understanding of affirmative action after watching the video. However, I disagree with the narrator that it will be over soon. I believe racial equality won’t be achieved for several more decades therefore we still need the program.

The affirmative action program was created to redress historic injustices against minority groups. The program has grown to be very controversial because many people believe that it ensues discrimination against non minorities. #SOCL214

Framing Asians as the model minority creates the idea that other minorities are inherently less than and that social issues aren’t prominent or that they don’t even exist. #SOCL214

Privilege can be a very difficult topic to discuss however, the discomfort and anger felt is not worse than what people on the other side of privilege feel. In order for equality for all to happen, these difficult conversations need to happen.

Black representation in film as evolved over the last century. Previously, an all black production company failed because of the lack of commercial appeal to white audiences. However, now we have billion dollar film profits starring black and brown leads. #SOCL214
