@jasonryanmd This feels like a 'read my mind' test for applicants. When I interview for residency, I care more about their experience, adaptability, and teamwork. If I wanted the patient’s perspective, I'd interview them instead.

Your perspective is raw, necessary and essential

Pay attention to the racial+ethnic composition of your hospital/ university’s custodial, janitorial and essential working staff

Most will be from surrounding low-income communities - the very same communities where patients - who disproportionately suffer healthcare disparities- are from

If there’s a difference in the racial / ethnic composition of your hospitals’ physician workforce vs the essential / custodial staff - ask yourself why? What barriers exist in this group to be represented amongst physicians?

These racial / ethnic differences are DISPARITIES themselves -

Hearing about a Latina who has a 3.5 GPA (having to work 20 hours a week) at an Ivy League school and is being actively discourage from applying to medical school by advisors is exactly the reason why this system is biased, inequitable and needs to be reconstructed. That’s coming from a plastic surgeon.
