@DGlaucomflecken General Internal Medicine, but more of an ID pet peeve: bacterial cultures don’t “speciate” unless they evolved into a new species in the culture. Bacterial cultures GROW and we IDENTIFY.
Excited to present my ePoster on the Parallel Curriculum - the use of third-party resources in undergraduate medical education - at the Association for Medical Education in Europe! #AMEE2021 https://t.co/vRkya6Mtql #eposters via @LTBePosters
“Getting the vaccines that are authorized by the respective authorities is an act of love. And helping the majority of people to do so is an act of love. Love for oneself, love for our families and friends, and love for all peoples.” - Pope Francis
@mjbocchese I wear my test-taking xkcd shirt that says “Stand back, I’m going to try science”, have a strategized caffeine schedule, and pray before starting every section.
Cheers to Dr. Eduardo Mulanovich (@EMulanovich) for his successful thesis defense and completion of the Medical Education Master of Science Program. Dr. Mulanovich's thesis is entitled "A Multi-Institutional Survey on the Parallel Curriculum in Undergraduate Medical Education".🥳
@medrants@SocietyGIM@ACPinternists Hard to objectively quantify/qualify teaching. Poll med students/residents/faculty on teaching reputation perceptions? Number of MedEd publications/workshops/presentations? I picked UAB IM residency and Pitt Med Ed fellowship by word-of-mouth endorsement of the teaching quality
@EllenaPopova @drnandiwada @SocietyGIM@PittGIM They are helpful for building frameworks (Sketchy, Online MedEd), spaced/interleaved practice (Sketchy, Anki), and quizzing (Uworld, Anki). Building your own Anki decks really helps with memory as well. As medical educators we can teach learning theory to maximize effectiveness!
@VarmaMalvika @drnandiwada @SocietyGIM@PittGIM Never used it in med school. Looked at a few videos in preparation for this presentation and I have to say they make memorization a lot easier.
@lambchopsMD @drnandiwada @SocietyGIM@PittGIM All students we surveyed used at least 1 resource (~100% used UWorld) in micro and IM. Pathoma got big around the time I was in Med School, so probably about 10 years. Big thing is that access is easier now as more resources are online and cater to test prep.
@AimeeZaas @drnandiwada @SocietyGIM@PittGIM They can range from $0 - >$1000/yr subscription. We found spending > $1000 for Micro and ~$600 for IM. Most spending are on resources used in multiple subjects (UWorld, Sketchy). Those with lesser means have more burden as we find no difference in spending by socioeconomic status
@drnandiwada @SocietyGIM@PittGIM @drnandiwada It was great presenting our findings on the Parallel Curriculum at the Oral Innovations in UME @SocietyGIM#sgim21. Thank you for moderating! Knowing the resources students use can help us help them with what we know about learning theory and clinical experiences
With more than 50 presentations by Pitt/UPMC superstars, we cannot wait for #SGIM21 next month!
Check out our list of presenters & topics, and plan your schedule for attending the @SocietyGIM annual meeting! @PittIMChiefs@PittDeptofMed@PittHealthSci https://t.co/KGL9WAXw93
