In April 2024, Jamaica’s employed labor force reached 1,420,300, with 53.7% males (762,200) and 46.3% females (658,100). Of these, 1.7% (24,800) were underemployed, working part-time but seeking more hours.
In April 2024, the labour force included 1,483,100 individuals, with 788,500 males (53.2%) and 694,600 females (46.8%). The overall labour force participation rate was 68.8 %. Males had a higher participation rate at 74.5%, while females had a participation rate of 63.3%.
The Jamaican economy grew by 0.2 % during the second quarter of 2024 compared to the second quarter of 2023. This was largely attributed to a 1.5 % increase in the Goods Producing Industries.
