This is purple loosestrife - native to Europe & Asia - invasive in North America. It typically grows 3-5 feet tall and blooms July - September. Plants primarily spread by seeds that are easily carried by water, wind, animals, footwear, vehicles & more.

This is fireweed - native to Canada & the U.S., except Hawaii & parts of the south. It typically grows 4-6 feet tall and blooms June - September. Plants spread by seed & rhizomes - often the first to come back after fire, attracting a variety of pollinators.
