🇪🇺 Is the EU weakening its own role as a global AI rule‑maker? The Omnibus package amends the AI Act by simplifying obligations, but with notable consequences:
👉 key requirements for high‑risk AI systems are postponed until 2027–2028;
👉 providers are now required to limit risks, rather than eliminate them;
👉 the use of sensitive data to detect bias is expanded, raising concerns about data protection.
While aimed at boosting competitiveness, the changes may mainly benefit large [mostly US] tech companies and weaken the EU's ability to set global standards [so called "Brussels effect"].

Words matter in geopolitics. By labeling the #UyghurGenocide as just a "Muslim minority" or "indigenous" issue, the West obscures the reality of Beijing's authoritarian expansion.

Are we falling into Beijing's vocabulary trap? Labeling the Uyghur Genocide as merely a "Muslim" or "indigenous" issue obscures the reality of an authoritarian state digesting a historically sovereign nation. My latest for @EurasiaReview: https://t.co/s2Y49K49Eu
Highly recommend to all Western political analysts and foreign policy professionals: 'The West’s Strategic Blind Spot on China'. A timely and insightful op-ed that challenges conventional thinking on one of the defining strategic challenges of our time
American workers have paid the price for the CCP’s cheating and Trump’s new tariffs are a step toward a level playing field.
Congress must go further—revoke China’s MFN status and stop giving special treatment to an authoritarian regime that steals, lies, and undermines American strength.
Since joining the #WTO, #China faces 3 paths:
1️⃣ Honor commitments, risking reforms & democratization.
2️⃣ Double down on authoritarianism, defying norms.
3️⃣ West fails to enforce rules, strengthening #CCP & undermining global values.
Which path will prevail?
@MPIainDS I believe in the values promoted by the intellectuals of the Enlightenment. #China and #Russia represent authoritarian and despicable values that must be defeated. Due to selfishness, many countries resist this initiative. But only China is truly capable of resisting!
“When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, America didn’t ignore Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. We confronted the axis powers simultaneously. China, Russia, and Iran are the modern-day axis.
If we don’t help our friends beat Russia in Europe and Iran in the Middle East, then China will impose its will over Asia, and America itself will be in serious jeopardy.”
UK defence secretary Grant Shapps has accused China of providing or preparing to provide Russia with “lethal aid” for use by Moscow in its war against Ukraine. “Today I can reveal that we have evidence that Russia and China are collaborating on combat equipment for use in Ukraine,” Shapps told a defence conference in London on Wednesday.
