Africa is the world’s youngest continent.
By 2050, one quarter of the world’s population will live in Africa.
This demographic transformation will shape the global economy, innovation, labour markets and international partnerships for decades to come.
The EU and Africa are long-standing partners in peace, security, trade and in creating opportunities for the next generation.
Our partnership is an investment in a shared future. This Africa Day, we look ahead together.

1/ Following the successful Namibia–EU Business Forum in Windhoek last week, EU & Member State Ambassadors met with @MIRT_NAMIBIA Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi and senior Govt officials to discuss strengthening Namibia–EU trade and investment relations. 🇳🇦🇪🇺🇫🇮🇫🇷🇩🇪🇵🇹🇪🇸
If Europe wants to be a geopolitical actor, we need to be more strategic in our external action.
At today’s Development Council, we will discuss how Europe can better align aid, trade, security, and defence partnerships with both the development needs of our partners and our own strategic interests.
Global Gateway investments must focus where they can have the greatest impact, and where countries align with our interests. If a partner country supports Russia or Iran, our engagement has to remain flexible so we can realign accordingly.
My press remarks ↓
Equality, participation and non-discrimination are at the heart of democracy. Yet across the world, too many LGBTIQ+ persons still face violence, discrimination, hate speech and stigmatisation simply for being who they are.
In more than 65 countries, consensual same-sex relations remain criminalised. Where discrimination persists, democracy cannot fully thrive. The EU remains committed to defending the human rights of all LGBTIQ+ persons and to promoting inclusive and democratic societies for all.

Every human being is unique in their identity. Respect for diversity and individual freedom are fundamental values at the heart of the European Union.
