#Expresswaynetwork | The Narendra Modi government spent over ₹910 crore on newspaper advertisements between 2020-21 and 2024-25, according to data shared by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the Lok Sabha.

The figures came in a written reply to a question raised by Congress MP Radhakrishna.

Among newspapers, the Times of India topped the list, receiving ₹78.22 crore in government print advertising, followed by Dainik Jagran with ₹59.14 crore and Hindustan Times with ₹47.80 crore.

The latest figures add to the government’s overall advertising expenditure. In an earlier Parliament reply, the Centre said it spent ₹5,987.46 crore across print, electronic, and digital media platforms from 2014-15 to 2024-25.

That averages out to nearly ₹1.5 crore every day on advertisements over 11 years.

Several candidates staged a protest outside the centre, saying the lapses had cost years of preparation. Vijayapura Deputy Commissioner T. Bhoobalan and Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi visited the centre following the protest.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority later clarified that serial numbers on OMR sheets and question papers need not match, and that candidates only needed to correctly fill in the Version Code and Series Code.
