New twitter account after getting locked out of my old one. Formerly @EWints. Freelancer @tgsports. @HPUAlum. Was once featured on a trash can near Fenway Park.
If you thought pulling a stater early was stupid can I introduce you to a catcher trying to stretch a double into a triple after breaking up a no-hitter in the 8th while down one???
Random thought, unpacking it all: We all debated the order of starters for weeks only for the Sox to not use them enough. It didn’t matter who went Game 1 and Game 2 if they were going to stick to that script.
According to @Ken_Rosenthal “The Phillies at least need to kick around the idea of trading one of (Kyler Schwarber or Bryce Harper)”
“Harper’s deal, too, includes full no-trade protection, and Schwarber just gained full no-trade rights as a player with 10 years of service, five consecutive with the same club. Neither of their deals is oppressive: Harper is owed $118 million over the next five seasons, Schwarber $120 million over the next four. And both players are still major contributors, Harper ranking seventh in the NL in OPS this season, Schwarber ninth.”

The @redsox not resigning Kyle Schwarber in his free agent year for $80M is the worst free agent miss in Boston sports history.
No longer any doubt there, right?
Btw, Red Sox fans today would have been happy trading away prime Manny Ramirez bc of “vibes” as well. I care about talent and big power hitters, not the power of friendship
Still haven't filled in that hole left in the lineup by trading your best hitter because he was being an insolent baby after no one fucking knew how to communicate. The Devers trade continues to be the single dumbest thing the Craig Breslow has done.
@s22bos21@RobStep20437670@DanBFox1287 It seemed like he wasn’t happy that he got pulled with 2 outs in the 5th inning and wasn’t allowed an opportunity to work out of the jam when he was the best pitcher on the team all year and was the best pitcher in the AL 3rd time through the order.
@THEAkeemGlaspie Sorry to hear Akeem. I know how it feels to be let go by USA Today/Gannett. You are a great reporter and will get back on your feet somewhere! Good luck on the next chapter! Wishing you and your family the best!
2027 contract situation (part 3 of 47): Trevor Story
Story enters the final year of his 6yr/$140M deal signed before 2022. He'll make $25M and his AAV will be $23.33M.
The team also holds a $25M club option for 2028, which is highly unlikely to come to fruition.

“Obviously, postseason elimination is disappointing, but I think it’s important that we resist evaluating the outcome through a binary success-failure framework.
What we experienced was really a high-leverage competitive information event.
October gave us an opportunity to collect actionable data within a compressed performance environment, and that’s incredibly valuable as we begin constructing our offseason decision architecture.
Did we accomplish the objective of winning the World Series?
No.
But I’m not sure that’s the only appropriate measurement of organizational advancement.
When you isolate our process-based indicators, normalize for roster volatility, and remove the inherent randomness associated with small-sample postseason sequencing, there are underlying developmental efficiencies that I think are extremely encouraging.
We learned things.
And learning things creates knowledge.
And knowledge, when properly contextualized within a scalable baseball-operations infrastructure, creates optionality.
That’s really what this is about.
Optionality.
Now we go back to the drawing board — although I’d probably characterize it less as a drawing board and more as a multidimensional roster-optimization matrix.
We’ll examine our run-production ecosystem, pitching sustainability, defensive conversion architecture, biomechanical availability patterns, and the intersection between player acquisition cost and projected marginal win efficiency.
We’ll ask difficult questions.
Then we’ll develop even more difficult questions about those questions.
Then we’ll build models to determine whether we were asking the correct questions in the first place.
That process takes time.
I understand fans want answers.
But answers without sufficient probabilistic context are really just conclusions, and conclusions can become dangerous when they interfere with process.
So am I disappointed?
Of course.
But I’m also energized.
Because sometimes elimination isn’t an ending.
Sometimes it’s simply an additional data point.
And if you zoom out far enough, remove emotion, adjust for variance, calculate the underlying expected organizational trajectory and squint really hard at the spreadsheet…
We’re actually undefeated.”
@jimsoxfan@TonyMassarotti I don’t regret trading Crochet, but I wonder if the Sox traded Mayer to Chicago, if they could have kept one of Teel or Montgomery instead of sending both to the White Sox
@jimsoxfan@TonyMassarotti I would have kept Roman even though he has been injury prone so far in his big league career. He had no history of being injury prone in the minors, while Marcelo did and was
I know it’s not all about pulling Tolle and Sonny early. Obviously you gotta hit and bullpen needs to execute, but what I find crazy about those decisions is we didn’t really see anything even close to that in the regular season. Out of no where.
