@ellamertes I started doing this because I was afraid that if I left chords in the outlet for too long, it would start a fire or something. I didn't know that I was saving energy instead
Leaving chords plugged into an outlet can waste energy even when it’s not being directly used. That’s why it is important to unplug the accessories you are not using in order to be as energy efficient as possible! #apesenergy
I use a lot of energy by turning on my fan at night, so I do my best to make up for it by keeping my light off during the day. #apesenergy@franklinlorax
@SM507721apes@franklinlorax Another thing to add is that in Wisconsin, our bedrock is composed mostly of limestone, which is very useful to make substances more alkaline.
soil is made up of the o, a, e, b, & c horizons, as well as bedrock. the o horizon is made up of organic surface litter; a of topsoil; e of the zone of leaching; b of subsoil: & c of weathered parent matetial. @franklinlorax#apesland
@AS511195apes @franklinlorax Glad to see Sonia grow so big from when I took care of it when you were on vacation a couple years ago! I know you also said you watered your plants more frequently and that also helped your plants grow more than average.
My neighborhood contains low density housing, which wastes more land than high density housing. In order to keep land for future generations, high density is more effective for saving space. #apesland@franklinlorax
@SM507721apes@franklinlorax Even though Thomas Malthus' theory was somewhat overturned due to the Green Revolution, it still rings true when it comes to illness. The more dense the population, the more likely a population will get sick.
@BM8675309apes@franklinlorax I think it's so interesting that immigrants aren't included in population pyramids, because those people can easily change the shape of the graph and impact decisions made on populations.
This seashell is from the state of Odisha in India, where I was born! Immigrants, like me, are not counted in population pyramids. Countries, like the US that receive many immigrants can offset the issues of an aging population and shrinking workforce. #apespop@franklinlorax
one component of thomas malthus’s essay on population growth discussed how epidemics will reduce population size, even if humans themselves don’t decide to do so. with the rising death toll of the covid-19 pandemic, this idea seems to becoming clear. #apespop@franklinlorax
Buying local products instead of well-known, "safe" products like we usually do can help reduce our ecological footprint within our growing population. @franklinlorax#apespop
@lorax_syl@franklinlorax Knowing whether tinder on the ground is caused by natural factors or if it fell because of human intervention is necessary for knowing whether or not picking/cleaning up that tinder is appropriate.
@JillianWachter@franklinlorax It's really cool that you shared this, because it is important for people to know that if they have a pet that isn't naturally suited for the temperate deciduous forest biome, they must be kept in special conditions for them to stay alive.
Cold blooded leopard geckos live in the temperate grassland/cold and subtropical desert biome. These locations provide a suitable temperature for a natural leopard gecko's habitat. The temps can range well over 110°F during the day and 25°F at night.

This image is a great reminder of how leftover branches from a lumber harvest can become tinder for a forest fire. If this branch had fallen on a forest floor it could easily start fire and burn surrounding trees from the bottom up. #apeseco@franklinlorax
Wisconsin is in the Temperate Deciduous Forest biome, but a lot of the trees and forest area was cleared out to make room for our homes, and like my backyard shown in the picture. @franklinlorax#apeseco
My family also does this, and we do our best to limit how much we buy plastic water bottles so that we can keep the impact that we as a group have as low as possible.
By using my refrigerator to fill up my water cup, I am reducing the output of plastic bottles being put into the great pacific garbage patch! #apeswater@franklinlorax
@sophie_garman @franklinlorax Vegetative barriers are a great and natural way to prevent harmful chemicals from entering the water and I feel like it's a very overlooked option.
