The isopod Idotea metallica (Bosc, 1801) was not named after the band, but given it’s thrashing appearance, we suspect it went the other way. Often found in Flotsam and Jetsam, this contrasts with Metallica bassists. #metallica#FridayFacts@inaturalist

🐟 Rough Silverside (Membras martinica) makes 82 fish species recorded in our Rhode River surveys of 40 years. Rough Silverside look similar to Atlantic Silverside, but can be differentiated by their rough scales. Salinities are up & we expect to see more rare species. #chesbay
This week, @E_Andersonii and @McelhinnyJulia celebrated the end of #SAV field season 🎉 They completed a full Rhode River SAV survey, visiting over 100 sites along the shoreline by boat (and canoe!!) to look at the spatial distribution of underwater grass beds. #ChesBay
The #Chesbay is finally seeing some rain this week after a long dry spell. The salinities in the upper regions of the bay have been high for this time of year (12) which means we get to see some more exciting species. #serclt
