@ChristianityOn True, but in my experience, it's also symptomatic of something like depression to feel like you won't ever get better. It's very easy to identify with something so all consuming. In fact, part of my recovery has been learning that it's possible for me to feel different
@ChristianityOn I've done private confession with an Episcopalian priest (and know a few others who would definitely hear confessions if asked) so they're definitely out there
@androgynyfiend@voidblossomed Honestly, T has been the single most effective factor in reducing my suicidality. A few weeks in, I just suddenly started actually wanting to live
@uncanny_eli They've also not been communicating about this with patients. I was referred onto the surgery pathway a couple of months ago (or so I was told) and none of this was ever mentioned.
@ChristianityOn The problem is that I still haven't found a succinct but accurate description of my theological position. "Progressive Christian" absolutely doesn't cut it, but people often don't want the essay version
@ScholarPriest Not been part of formal discernment, but in an interview for a pastoral assistant role I disclosed my sexuality (it was relevant to the question). One of the interview panel followed up with "well you're not going to make a big deal out of it are you?".
@supermattachine Read a lot as a kid. Among other things: Artemis Fowl, His Dark Materials, Arthur Ransome, all the Narnia books, Charlie Higson's Young Bond series; anything by Michael Morpurgo (imo some of the best written). Was very into Michelle Paver's series set in ancient Britain.
@TaylorWDriggers Been thinking about this a lot lately. One of the things that has made church pretty much untenable for me since transition is not actually transphobia, like some people would assume, but the way that denial, hiddenness and compromise are structurally embedded in the institution
@lucaslarner I can't articulate it well, but imo the approach individualises both the struggles of the oppressed and solidarity in pursuit of justice. I've also rarely found that its proponents have any clear sense of what it means to 'be with' an oppressed *people* (vs person)
@badinfinity2@Hilary_Cass That ship has arguably already sailed for me given I'm well over a year on Y, but today was a good day to finally get a date for my first GIC appointment. Only had to wait two years
This is the first Holy Week in my life that I haven't been to church at all and have no plans to. I've had way more feelings about it than I would have expected tbh
