In 1989 I was jealous of Steve Wozniak for buying a $45,000 color printer so he could print out of Photoshop 1.0.

Today a $70 printer beats it.

But the printer never really got cheap. The expensive part just moved. You stopped paying for the machine and started paying for the ink, and the ink is priced so you never do the math.

I sold consumer electronics for a decade before I wrote about any of this. People will argue for an hour about the sticker price and never ask what's inside it.

Leaky hold out problems in supervised learning models can be a nightmare to identify especially with time series data, to the human they look like ‘this is too good to be true’ but to an agent they may miss it, but running self improving loops on live forward data as it arrives will always reveal the leak in due course.
