Not all blind people use screen readers and not all users of screen readers are blind. Blindness is not a binary. Low vision is also a thing. PDFs are not accessible to many low vision users. No matter how you make them or how well they are supported.
Disabled people don’t want access designed by nondisabled people.
The first rule of access must be to consult with and follow the lead of disabled people.

A year ago, a non-academic friend listened to a talk I gave. I thought it went great. My friend disagreed.
She said that academics are experts at making interesting stuff boring—and that we should all take a speech class.
So I did. And here are 6 most useful things I learned.
Here is the classic example of ‘Deaf Gain’. The Deaf community found out who is the winner of the Best Supporting Actor a couple of seconds before non-signers because Youn Yuh-Jung tried to say congratulations in sign language! Let’s celebrate! #oscars#Oscars2022#deafgain

All designers are responsible for accessibility, yes, but there is a LOT of value in having designers specializing in accessibility.

Have been looking at a lot of web and mobile trainings last couple weeks. I was curious if #Accessibility was apart of any of them, and for most part it was no. Most of these are fundamentals courses, which leads me to this question. How does #A11y not belong in fundamentals?!?!
