What CFF shows us is this: Guaranteed income doesn’t discourage work—it fuels the drive to overcome systemic barriers. This in turn improves over-all well-being, as seen below in the results from round 2.
In just the first year, participants began using the financial support to pay down debt. Those that were behind on bills dropped by 24%. Also 90% of participants found work—whether part-time, full-time, or in the gig economy at the end of round 2.
That’s where CFF came in. We provided $500 monthly payments to 100 participants—men and women from neighborhoods like Austin, West Garfield Park, and Englewood. Each of them had a criminal record and faced enormous obstacles to having stability in life.
For many, the costs of a criminal record go far beyond what’s on paper. Jobs are scarce. Housing is unstable. And even basic needs—like food and utilities—become constant struggles. In Chicago’s West Side, these challenges are even more pronounced.
Meet the Chicago Future Fund (CFF)—a groundbreaking program that’s changing the lives of formerly incarcerated Chicagoans. For the last two years, we’ve had the privilege of working alongside @EatOrgChicago to help remove barriers to re-entry and build a brighter future for these individuals. Here’s their story. 👇 #GuaranteedIncome
