We won't be far behind if C-22 passes. In its current state, VPNs would almost certainly require us to log identifying user data.
Signal isn't headquartered in Canada so they can just shut off Canadian servers, but our HQ is. We pay an ungodly amount of taxes to this corrupt government, and in return they want to destroy the entire essence of our service to basically spy on its own citizens.
Not happening. We'll move HQ and take our taxes elsewhere.
Ironically, the so-called “anti-hate” groups have an incredibly strong financial incentive to stoke hate, so they actually AMPLIFY hate!
The worst thing that could happen to them is actually ending hate, as they would cease to exist.
@MCASHistamine@LichTamara@ChrisBarber1975 Oh, give it a rest! They didn’t “terrorise a city.” I live in Ottawa, and while I felt they overstayed, they stoped honking when told to. It wasn’t racist in the least, and Tamara was nothing but cooperative in working with law enforcement.
@sunny051488@DamianProsa Not exactly the hallmark of a healthy economy when the best wealth generating strategy is a speculative attack on the currency that’s being predictably debased.
Once you compress incentives from the top-down and say, "It doesn't matter how much you earn I'm going to take the lion's share away," they say, "Alright, I'm no longer going to do the lion's part." Then they stop creating the extra wealth which would benefit both themselves and society as a whole.
@GoogleQuantumAI@real_or_random another reason to favor the realist vs hype mentality, is it's extremely dangerous to rush cryptography; just look at the NIST PQ design competition, most of the candidates were broken or rejected as failing security evaluation criteria. we really can NOT rush in new cryptography
I’m writing this in the style of AI. You read that right. Know why? You’re probably not ready for it, but I don’t care. So here goes.
It’s because AI generated content is slop. Boring. Repetitive. Not just unnecessarily lengthened, but bloated and ugly.
You may think it’s improving on the idea you had that you communicated in a single sentence. That one sentence was imperfect. But that sentence bore your personal style. It didn’t look like what everyone else’s posts looks like - like what this post looks like - since it didn’t come from AI (nor did it try to).
But let me let you in on a secret that everybody knows and nobody is prepared to admit. Not the most powerful CEOs. Not the most knowledgable scientists. Not even the AIs themselves.
That secret is that your own style, imperfect as it is, is a reflection of the real, authentic, one-of-a-kind human being that is YOU! And when you wipe out that beautiful, original, irreplaceable you with commodified, pattern-matched slop that anyone else can reproduce with a simple prompt YOU are guilty of having done something very harmful.
Harmful to you.
Harmful to others.
Harmful to our whole civilization.
You see, the actual truth behind your actual idea has been distorted.
Diluted.
Suppressed.
Altered.
Exaggerated.
Lost.
And with it, so has your unique identity.
Read that again.
Maybe it’s only a little. But at least a little bit. And gradually, you’re disappearing.
Being replaced.
Drop by drop.
Prompt by prompt.
Instead of instructing yourself to say something clearly, you’re delegating that activity to something else. And you’re forgetting how to be clear.
Instead of figuring out how to be concise and convincing , you’re relying on a machine to make the point for you at a predetermined (and inappropriate) length, based on what works for OTHERS who have become dependent on machines to do the same for them.
You’re becoming like others. Not individuating. You’re conforming. Collectivizing. Disappearing. Vanishing into the algorithm.
Whoever you were. Whatever you were meant to be. You’re erasing them. That person is becoming a carbon-copy cutout of the slop-generating machine that you’re choosing to represent you.
And that’s the worst part.
You’re the one doing it.
Nobody is forcing you to ask the machine to think and create and write for you, and thereby taking you out of the thinking, out of the creating and out of the writing process. It’s only you and your lack of belief in yourself that’s doing it.
Your fate is in your hands. Disappear to yourself, to everyone, to society.
Or discover, express and assert yourself.
The choice is yours. Choose you.
