Sponsored by Togo and backed by the African Union member states, this initiative builds on the #CorrectTheMap to dismantle centuries of "cartographic colonialism."

Why this vote matters:
1. The Mercator Illusion: Designed in the 16th century for sea navigation, the Mercator projection distorts landmasses as they move away from the equator making Greenland appear the same size as Africa, when Africa is actually 14 times larger.
