Modern versions don’t create a contradiction between 2 Sam 21:19 & 1 Chr 20:5. They more clearly illustrate a difference in the Masoretic text these versions are translated from.

The KJV adds “the brother of” to 2 Sam and indicates this addition by italicizing these three words which are not in the text. (The NJKV also does this).

Some modern versions leave the text just as it is in the original Masoretic and add a footnote referencing 1 Chr 20:5. Some translations leave the as it is literally written, some interject text with no footnote I can find that says something to indicate it’s the brother of.

So the real question is why is it different in the Masoretic, a secondary question flowing from the real question is how to handle translation and notation for this.

It’s more literally accurate to the Masoretic text to leave out “the brother of” as it’s not there in the source text the KJV inserts and and indicates this by using italics.

It would be better to explain/resolve the question about the accuracy of the Hebrew here than sensationalizing drama about translation choices in English versions.
