We're calling on Congress to help states address the growing danger of super-resilient, man-made PFAS chemicals contaminating drinking water in areas across our nation.
These toxic "forever" chemicals are dangerous to our health & we need the federal gov't to address the threat.

“NYS has every tool in its power to use to stop this from happening, to stop future water contamination crises and to ensure that the public knows what’s in their water” - @NYPIRG. Story f/@ADunneWAMC@WAMCNews https://t.co/JLOehqPeKQ #PFAS
“Every day we wait to take action is another day that goes by that we’re contributing to the #ClimateCrisis. NY needs to stand up and be a model to the country and the world.” -@NYPIRG. Story f/@bstorrow: https://t.co/ZkFNTuv2Pv
And make @saintgobain finally pay up for #HoosickFalls to get an alternate, clean, surface water source. If Tomhannock Reservoir is best, let's make it happen. @NYSDEC, when's that alt water source study coming out again?
@NRDC Bottom line - @HealthNYGov@NYGovCuomo, NY's current "aggressive" pace is simply not aggressive enough. For NY to be ahead of the game on #PFAS, other unregulated chemicals, there is a lot of work left to do. #HoosickFalls https://t.co/6f3qES9Ab8
Additionally, @NRDC released a comprehensive science paper recommending a COMBINED drinking water standard of 2ppt for #PFOA#PFOS and a couple other #PFAS chemicals: https://t.co/EoHUiVSc9i
Since the state Drinking Water Quality Council made recommendations in Dec 2018, new science indicates there's likely no safe level of #PFAS chemicals: https://t.co/UYvWu7NWaD CC: @HealthNYGov
. @HealthNYGov does not answer the question why they haven't created a list or begun testing for other emerging contaminants yet pursuant to a 2017 law.
This law was created to explicitly avoid what happened in #HoosickFalls - test in all public water systems, regardless of size, for unregulated dangerous chemicals.
Without this testing, there is very likely other communities in NY with unregulated chemicals, like PFOA, in their drinking water at unsafe levels. #HoosickFalls will be repeated without this mandated testing, @HealthNYGov@NYGovCuomo.
Additionally, @HealthNYGov states that the emerging contaminant list will be created through the State Drinking Water Quality Council - a body that they control and have yet to announce another meeting since December 2018.
