Just 2/ >100 Balkan Lizard #orchids of our campus! Himantoglossum calcaratum ssp. rumelicum (f. known as H. jankae) thrives herethe last few years, and is definitely the eye-catcher of the season with its showy inflorescence popping out of the almost dry grasses. #TeamOrchids ✌️
Great outing today with @EcoLab_BET & friends/colleagues, around the Metsovo area, Epirus (NW Greece 🇬🇷)!Spotted lots of great #orchids in diff #habitats, but Kalopissis’ orchid was my personal favorite of the day (a former Greek & currently #Balkan#endemic). #TeamOrchids 🫶
We are more than happy when dear colleagues visit our lab - especially when they can fit a talk in their schedule for our @bat_uoi students!
Richard M. Bateman is for sure one of the scientists you don’t want to miss.

Hey #Orchid people & societies!📣
(1/2) After lots of work from @IUCN_Orchids#GlobalTrade subgroup members, beautifully led by my fellow co-chair @_JPhelps, we’re happy to share our 1st draft of “A Guide to Building Ethical Orchid Collections & Societies”

Never have we seen something like this! The birds seems to have interrupted their activity. Just in 10 min everything turned into a Mad Max scenery! #African#dust, #αφρικανικη_σκονη#σκονη
It was such a pleasure hosting our colleague & friend @LatinOrchidBot in @EcoLab_BET !Last week was full of science (incl. Oscar’s great talk in @bat_uoi seminar), beautiful landscapes 🏔️around #Epirus 🇬🇷, lots of #orchids (duh!), and ofc, food 🥗! Hasta la próxima, Oscar 🤗🌷
Warm congrats to Dr. @kalliopistar from @EcoLab_BET for receiving the Dimitrios Stam. Papadimitriou Award from the @academyofathens for her book ! 🎉🎉🎉

🆕 paper by @IUCN_Orchids Global Trade members, incl. our very own lab head @jmaxHalley and @marthonio_ (OSG Global Trade co-chair), introducing a decision-making key for identifying IF and HOW #orchids can be sustainably harvested. See more on the post 👇🏼 | @bat_uoi
🧵(1/2) Thousands of #orchids are wild harvested globally leading to alarming declines & an assumption that orchid harvest can never be #sustainable. We need to be pragmatic on orchid #IllegalTrade & understand the importance of wild orchid #harvest for livelihoods & culture.
Our latest paper on COVID-19 (https://t.co/T6QspdkLvM) shows how transmission TO domestic animals or TO wildlife may be important. Indeed, through spill-back and 2ndry spillover, major mutations could be going on "under the radar" that might later return to us.
Autumn lady's-tresses (Spiranthes spiralis) and autumn daffodils (Sternbergia lutea) right across the @bat_uoi building in Uni. of Ioannina🥰 Right on time to welcome the #Autumn#Equinox 🧡🍃🍂 @EcoLab_BET#LookAroundYou
