📊#EWI: Software-based complexity 🧑💻
In Europe Western Europe dominates the top and Germany leads (#3 globally). In the V4, Czechia and Poland rank relatively well, while Hungary (#34) and Slovakia lag behind. #ECI#software#V4
#EWI: economic complexity on research💡
The UK leads Europe with Sweden and the Netherlands. After Italy, a clear lower-complexity tier emerges, where the V4 countries are positioned and Slovakia stands out on the downside. #ECI
#EWI: Economic complexity beyond trade ⚗️
Sweden, Germany and Austria lead the tech-based #ECI ranking, while Switzerland falls back. Among the V4, Czechia and Poland outperform Hungary (#31), with Slovakia slightly behind. Different lenses, different rankings. #ECI#technology

#EWI: 10 years of car export🚗
China’s share rose by +8.65%, Germany fell –5.44%. Japan, UK, FR, US also lost ground. In CEE: SK (+1.59%), CZ (+1.14%) gained, while HU get –0.1%. Key question of the future: how traditional car manufacturers will be able to compete with China.
📊#Produce or #invent? Can make it (RCA), but may not know why it is made that way (RTA). In V4, Poland & Czechia stand out, Hungary lags, especially in tech. Globally, Germany & France is tech‑heavy, China is production‑heavy, while US manufacturing shows weak RCA and RTA. #EWI
🌍Global trade is dominated by just a few key products. Raw materials (especially energy), electronics and the automotive industry stand out. This helps explain why Middle East conflicts and the global re‑shaping of car production matter so much for the world economy. 📊
🔔 Call for papers – deadline: May 15

#EWI: What makes a Hungarian film better?
International productions don’t just bring jobs, they transfer skills. Films involving professionals with international experience receive higher ratings, especially in set design, costumes & make‑up. Knowledge spillovers improve quality.
#EWI: Separate worlds🎬
Hungary’s film sector shows clear #duality:
local productions and international shoots rely on largely separate professional circles.
Yet mobility between them matters — it supports #knowledge spillovers and improves local capabilities.
GVC pattern in #film production: Hungary is a key node, but has low presence at the front and end of the chain (producer, director, screenwriting, final edit). But strong leadership: nearly one‑third Hungarian dept heads, and set design is highly local.
#EWI - technological specialisation
Southern & Western Europe = coherent tech clusters while Eastern Europe = dispersed structures. Patterns match last week’s product results, but Northern Europe stands out: dispersed products, but more coherent tech (deliberate strategy?)
@cesifoti will be a keynote at the upcoming EconNet Workshop! A leading voice in economic #complexity and key contributor to #relatedness framework. His work reshaped how we think about capabilities and diversification.
