the pokemon that made catching them all literally impossible.

back in 2003, pokemon ruby and sapphire introduced spinda on route 113.
developers wanted every players spinda to feel unique so they used a complex coding system back then.

this called personality value that determined every single spinda with unique spot pattern on its face and ears.but they created a statistical nightmare.

because of how 32-bit math works, the game calculates specific coordinates for every spot, which means there are exactly 4,294,967,296 possible combinations.

if you caught every spinda every 10 seconds, it would take players 1,300 years on non stop playing just to have a chance to see them all, not counting random encounters of other pokemon.

some players thought wanted to take the challenge to a completely new level. completionists started hunting for a shiny spinda with specific patterns and when this combines with spinda’s personality value possibility is approximately 1 in 35 trillion.

this is statistically the rarest thing you could ever find in a video game.
