In the same way that Texas Chainsaw plants the flag but doesn't quite fit the entire mold (no stalking, lack of focus on kills, etc), Black Christmas similarly plants its own flag but doesn't quite fit the entire mold either by not having a centralized, identifiable, mythic masked killer, and has a less cleanly refined final girl template (which Texas does have).

Both movies are almost there enough to require mention, and both Texas and Black Christmas have the entire formula combined, but Halloween puts it all together in the format that became so easy to replicate afterwards (franchise defining masked killer as a recognizable "boogeyman" figure, refined final girl stereotype, stalking, focus on kills, group picked off one by one across a multi-layered environment, etc)

It has historically been manufactured and upheld by people from all cultural and political leanings. That is the very real and complex stew that the horror genre is. For every Shelly there is a Lovecraft, for every King there is a Blatty

Stephen King himself (since you brought him up) describes the horror story being "as conservative as an Illinois Republican in a three-piece pin-striped suit"

Now, I'm not bringing that up to suggest that horror is one thing or another. Just showing an example of that complexity...And with something that complex, I don't feel it hypocritical to embrace or reject certain aspects of that complexity for the sake of individual tastes.

But, if we're being honest with ourselves, we should at least admit that these varied and sometimes opposing ingredients do exist within the whole, co-operatively, as essential foundational pillars

Here's another quick Ed Lesson (for those interested in this stuff)

The AI haters are right about one thing: AI acting isn't always the greatest yet. They basically just blurt out everything you tell them to as quickly as possible.

But there's no reason you can't give a subpar clip a little breathing room and dramatic pacing yourself.

First pass: stick an environment clip in the middle...all the dramatic pause you need

Second pass: Give it some new background audio so that each clip sounds like they belong to the same place you're standing in.

Third pass: Boost the dialogue, add a slow zoom to differentiate your moments, and you're ready to rock.

(I also added what it should look like in Davinci just to show that it's not overly complex)
