I didn’t do an All About Me the first day. Instead, I took 5 min the first five days of school to go over each of our school values. I followed @Mr_Raichura’s routine “I want you all to be the kind of person who. . .” here: https://t.co/2U91zY5MuW

@adamboxer1 @michaelgove Maybe these questions would be better asked, in person, on your podcast… 😮

[Adam Boxer @adamboxer1]

@MrMetacognition saying a student's name before asking the question is a legitimate use of Cold Call as per its TLAC definition https://t.co/rXsljZc3Fh

My first lesson:

How do I start off with new classes? It's taken me a while, but this is now my routine 👇👇

First, make sure
1. A new exercise book is on everyone's seat
2. All chairs are down
3. Work is on the board
4. I have a seating plan

@Rory_Shamrock @campbellclaret That’s not very nice

[Pritesh Raichura @Mr_Raichura]

Direct instruction is joyful & leads pupils to success. Here is a *clip* where I use high frequency & high participation questioning in 3 phases:
1. Check for listening
2. Rehearsal
3. Check for understanding
Established routines: all hands up, turn & talk, SLANT & ruler reading

🧠 Why Don’t Students Like School? by @DTWillingham is one of the most influential books for teachers on cognitive science. It explores how students’ minds work and how to use this knowledge to be a better teacher.

Mini whiteboards are one of the most effective tools for real-time formative assessment. They make learning visible, foster participation, and allow for immediate feedback. Here's how they can transform your teaching. 🧵⬇️

Huge new result:

Anti-racism trainings probably lead people to accuse others of racism even when they're not racist.

That's exactly the result of a new study on DEI trainings, with a special focus on the impacts of the works of Ibram X. Kendi and Robin DiAngelo.

Let's dig in🧵

With the manifestos for the main parties announced I have shared a General Election summary with staff and students ahead of our mock election. Fully hyperlinked for anyone that wants to look up their constituency, candidates and compare their personal political philosophy.

“In schools where behaviour standards are high, disadvantaged children do disproportionately well.

In schools where behaviour standards are weak, disadvantaged children do disproportionately badly.”

[The Equiano Project @EquianoProject]

The concept of white privilege is a highly contested term, with no universal agreement on its definition or implications. We should avoid teaching children subjective ideas that are open to interpretation as if they were objective facts.
