@thomasforth I’d always thought this was a response by Thatcher to Liverpool council going bust. But it looks as though the council going bust was actually caused by a stand off with central Govt over funding cuts. Interesting.
@GarethDennis Are you sure you’re not taking the word of one old man over the opinion of another old man? Does it matter if Labour wins back lost voters or wins new ones? Isn’t Blair saying Labour should move to the right and Curtis is saying they should move to the left?
@jbhearn Has anyone compared the impact of that to inflation running at 4-5% for a prolonged period? I assume higher inflation is the worse of the two options for people without assets but better for those with?
@mitchell_hurd@CrossCountryUK There’s always a reason why the @CrossCountryUK I happen to be boarding is overcrowded and/or late. I guess I feel we should be aiming for something better. Like a pleasant comfortable carriage with functioning toilets, seats for everyone and a reliable service.
@hellotimbennett I guess a mortgage payment increasing from £260 per month to around £700-800 (est. cost of a new fixed rate) didn’t feel dramatic enough.
@SaveColumbiaRd1@carltonreid How is this the “truth” and not just a different viewpoint? It was an interesting read but just as ghettoisation would suck, so does 40m vehicles on our streets and endless traffic jams. Could the answer (as usual) lie somewhere in between?
