According to the 7th Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey launched today by @statisticsRW, over 1.5 million people have been lifted out of poverty since 2017. The overall poverty rate has declined from 39.8% to 27.4%, and extreme poverty has fallen from 11.3% to 5.4%. #EICV7

This afternoon, the Ministry of Education, in partnership with the World Economic Forum’s Centre for the New Economy and Society hosted the launch workshop of the Education Accelerator Project.

The workshop focused on harnessing emerging technologies and innovative solutions to drive transformation in education and human capital development.
It brought together key stakeholders, including senior government officials policymakers, industry leaders, teachers’ associations, and development partners, marking the beginning of important conversations on designing initiatives that will support the development of our Rwanda’s human capital.

Key topics discussed included:
✅ Insights from global labor market trends and skills development
✅ Alignment of Rwanda’s education system with evolving market demands
✅ Public-private partnerships as drivers of transformation in education

Minister Joseph Nsengimana emphasized:

“Rwanda’s Vision 2050, with the goal of becoming a high-income, knowledge-based economy, requires urgent alignment of our education system with both local and global market needs. The launch of the Education Accelerator Project is a call to action. It is a shared mission to assess global trends, critically review our education system, and co-create solutions through dynamic public-private partnerships.”

As emerging technologies such as AI rapidly reshape how we acquire, assess, and apply knowledge, we face the challenge of redefining success in education and preparing talent for the future labor market. These advancements call for a reimagined approach to education that involves collaboration across policymakers, academia, learners, and employers.

Rwanda’s commitment to this transformation is anchored in its long-term Vision 2050, the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2), and the Education Strategic Plan (2024-2029). These frameworks highlight high-quality education and robust human capital development as key pillars for the nation's future growth and competitiveness.
