It's an exciting moment for Sizewell B nuclear power station.
Weโve signed Heads of Terms with the UK Government, setting out the key principles for an agreement that would enable Sizewell B to continue generating reliable, low-carbon electricity until at least 2055.
This 20โyear lifetime extension beyond the original shutdown date of 2035 is a vote of confidence in our people, their skills and the role nuclear plays in strengthening the UKโs energy security and powering an electric Britain.
Robert Gunn, Station Director at Sizewell B, explains what this means for the site, our people and the communities it supports.

@lornypop Hello Lorna, 25 weeks is an impressive milestone! ๐ While there may not be an official prize, we hope you are making great use of the free electricity you have earned so far and good luck to making it to 52 weeks! Many thanks, Kim.

Hi Jeff, we donโt own the electricity wires or gas pipes that energy is delivered through, so we pay the network companies that do. A portion of customersโ bills goes towards the cost of maintaining, operating and upgrading these networks to ensure energy can be supplied safely and reliably.
You can find more information about what makes up your bill here: https://t.co/iwtaYMoIrZ. Thanks, ^Ashleigh

That's a fair question and completely understand the investment customers choose to make when fitting solar and/or battery. The price customers pay for electricity covers more than the energy itself, it also includes the costs of maintaining and operating the network, environmental and government policy costs, and other charges. Export payments, on the other hand, are for the electricity that's supplied back to the grid. Many thanks, Sean
