@JjohnsonMsn I think this is often an overlooked point. Everyone jumps to distance education (or even work from home jobs if we're extrapolating). Some don't realize that DE can be mostly self-guided and can become isolating if not recognized early. #DistEd534

@Kaitlin54927151 I agree! Online simulations can help the student learn a skill through repetition and lack of fear when it comes to failure. When the student feels less pressured to complete a skill, they tend to do better on said skill. This carries over into real world nursing. #DistEd534

@nurse_stef14 Some educators, new and old, have lost their sense of ethical principles. Perhaps this is due to nursing burnout? I have made it a point to always discuss patients as a whole in an ethical and holistic manner. Real world nursing taught me that! #DistEd534

(2) Gen Z students are at increased risk of anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. We should be providing the best education AND support for our students, regardless if it's face to face or DE. Chunta et al. (2020). #DistEd534

using video and chat platforms and would feel comfortable contacting faculty in this manner. They want nurse educators to provide emotional support, and should be provided a list of campus resources. #DistEd534

This can be said for nursing students as well. As a current educator, I can't tell you how many students have told me that other professors told them they wouldn't make it. Or current nurses in leadership positions who said the same. We need to stop bullying our students.

I tweet for all the students who went to a professors office for help and were treated like trash and never went back. I see you. I was you. These are the experiences that made that engineering student with the 2.5 GPA & 2 failed courses decide to become an engineering professor.

Students during the covid-19 pandemic have stated their brain is "split in half," and they are missing out on valuable lab time. They also said they are under large amounts of stress due to their skills being inhibited. We, as a nation, should be treating our DE students better.

This enhanced her student's learning in pathology by almost 83%. That is a HUGE statistic when it comes to retention! An overlooked point is that almost 90% of her students said it made learning more fun. What a great way to teach our youth in a non-traditional way. #DistEd534

Keeping students engaged with interactive technology has been statistically shown to improve learning outcomes. Online quizzes (i.e @quizlet), videos (@Flipgrid, @YouTube) and case studies can all aid in education retention and reasoning (Campos et al., 2017). #DistEd534

@BrittaneStrahan I think that podcasts are becoming extremely educational and useful in higher education. As educators, there should be a need to record the lecture and perhaps upload to a podcast site, so students can hear the lecture in a different note. This also saves time more activities.

@BrittaneStrahan Social media can indeed encourage more participation. Mobile learning can be effective and can contribute to learners’ academic performance. The mobile learning needs to have the learner’s interest, type of design, and academic outcomes in mind (Foen et al., 2020).
