I made a mistake here.
I watched everyone else launch, grow, and win, and started feeling like Lemon needed to look successful before the product was ready. We spent months and tens of thousands of dollars trying to create momentum we hadn't earned yet.
The lesson was simple and painful: you can't market your way around a product people don't love.
So right now things are quieter. We're doing the unsexy work. And for the first time in a while, I think we're focused on exactly the right thing.
This feels a little surreal.
For years, I've studied the companies a16z backed and imagined building something worthy of that room. Now I have ten days to prepare for a meeting with them.
We're early. No revenue, very little traction, and a product we're still rebuilding. I'm nervous, but I think that's what makes this moment worth documenting.
I don't need them to invest today. I just want them to remember Lemon when the time is right.
I'll tell you how it goes.
Three weeks ago I said we were taking over Miami. Today, we’re changing the plan.
We're starting in Jönköping, the little Swedish city where I grew up.
Not because the dream got smaller. Because I want to build Lemon beside real users, hear what frustrates them, and fix it the same day.
Changing your mind can feel like moving backwards. Sometimes it's the most honest way to keep moving forward.
Let's see what happens here.
I've been going back and forth on this for days.
Miami is the bigger opportunity. Jönköping is where I can sit next to the people using Lemon and learn from them immediately.
Part of me feels like changing direction means slowing down. Another part knows that getting closer to users is probably the fastest way forward.
I still don't know the answer. What would you do?
This week wasn't exciting.
No launch. No big announcement. Mostly bugs, slow screens, weird search results, and conversations with users.
But I think this is the part people usually skip when they tell the story later. The quiet weeks where the product gets a little better every day.
So I want to document those too. Back to fixing things tomorrow :)
Day 42/1000! Follow along.
AI has completely changed what I think a company can look like.
A year ago, my first company had 49 people. Today, we're building Lemon with five and moving faster than I thought possible.
The weird part is that the tools aren't magic. They still need context, feedback, and high standards. The difference is that a tiny team can now attempt things that used to require dozens of people.
I genuinely think we're still at the beginning of this. Curious what all of this will look like a year from now.
That's all I've done today, but I'm not sure if I'm on the right track, so I'm going to keep recording everything, just like I've been doing so far. See you tomorrow, guys. Day 39!
Most people aren’t productive because we have a bad habit.
This bad habit is called the need for validation, and it goes hand in hand with social media. A large part of my team became more productive the very moment they stopped using social media to seek validation. Why? Because we all think we’re productive until we realize that the 10 hours we spend in front of the computer are mainly wasted on Instagram, WhatsApp, X—all for no real purpose.
Day 38/1000!! See you tomotrrow!
This is Ada. Not only is she my co-founder, but she’s also one of the best people I know and one of the people I admire most.
Throughout her life, she’s faced every challenge with a positive attitude—from growing up in Nigeria to supporting her family. Ada, everyone on the team admires you, and I’m so happy that you’re my co-founder and my friend! Thank you for being you.
Day 37
Today I learned something, and I’m not here to teach it to you—I’m here to tell you what I learned. Basically, I understood what it means—how wonderful it feels to help others with their problems without getting anything in return. We should all try helping others without expecting anything in return, especially when we have the means and the experience to help people in need. I think I liked it.
See you tomorrow!!
day 34.
every app right now is doing the same thing: bolting a chatbot onto the corner and calling it "AI-powered."
we think that version of AI is already dead.
so we merged it into the core. no ugly chat box — you just search like a human and it gets you.
the next big apps won't "have" AI. they'll feel like it was always there.
tell me i'm wrong 👇
Day 33 of building a billion-dollar startup. Here’s what we’ve accomplished:
We redesigned the entire app—it went from “it works” to “you can’t stop looking at it.” We merged the regular search engine and AI into a single smart search bar. We were featured in a newsletter that gave us 1.5M views, doubled our followers, and filled our DMs with people who want to invest and build with us.
And my childhood hero in Sweden wrote to me saying he loves what I’m doing
follow along!
After working in marketing for more than 3 years and generating over 2 million dollars in revenue, I’ve realized that many people focus solely on marketing and neglect their product. A bad product with good marketing generates sales; a good product with good marketing makes an impact on society. Just a little advice in case you want to change the world ;)
Today I woke up with just one question, and I need your help to answer it: What do you think is the meaning of life—or, well, of your life?
I’ll read all your comments—see you tomorrow!
Day 31/1000
Your workspace accounts for 60% of your productivity.
That’s why, on Day 30, I’m showing you my entire workspace—where I’ve been able to build two companies at the same time, scaling one of them to $2 million in annual revenue.
Unfortunately, I think I’m going to be leaving this space, so I encourage you to make sure your workspace has not just the best things, but everything you need to always be at your best. See you tomorrow!
This win was CRAZYYY (I was featured in the newspaper!), anyways we have to keep grinding and pushing because that doesn't guarantee that Lemon is still the best app.
Today was one of my best days!
See you tomorrow!!!
